Email campaigns

I designed digital actions that generated over 53,000 emails and phone calls to decision makers and built a Mailchimp audience of 29,000 engaged supporters.

The 109 email campaigns I ghost wrote for this audience achieved an overall open rate of 48.7% and click rate of 5.1%.

Alan Jones Biloela interview this morning!

27 June 2019

Hi << Test First Name >>,

Thank you so much for e-mailing your local MP and asking them to speak up to bring Priya, Nades and the girls home to Biloela. I have big news.

At 7am today (Thursday), I’m heading down to the 2GB studios in Sydney to tell talkback radio host Alan Jones all about our 16 month battle to bring this beautiful family home to Bilo.

Can you tune into radio 4BC 111AM (QLD) or 2GB 873AM (NSW) at 7am and be ready to speed-dial talkback 131 873 as soon as you hear my interview coming up?

I know Alan Jones is a controversial radio host and I’m pretty nervous about this interview. But whatever you think about Alan Jones and however the interview goes, today I really need your backup.

If you are lucky enough to make it onto the air, please let Alan’s listeners know how strongly you believe our politicians should bring this beautiful family bring home to Biloela right now. If you get a busy signal, please keep trying.

Again, thank you so much for all of your support for Priya, Nades, Kopika and Tharunicaa.

In hope,

Angela xxx

*|FNAME|*, did you hear? Alan Jones supports #hometobilo!

28 June 2019

Hi << Test First Name >>,

Did you hear? Yesterday, talkback radio host Alan Jones got behind our campaign to bring Priya, Nades and the girls home to Biloela!

I'm sorry for bombarding you with e-mails, but an incredible window of opportunity has opened up and we need to act fast. We need to make sure our MPs know that Australia's most popular talkback host agrees that we need to get this family home to Bilo.

<< Test First Name >>, I know that you have already sent an e-mail to your local MP. You may already have made a phone call, too. Thank you.

Today, can you please call the electorate office of your local MP << Test current_mp >> on << Test electorate_phone >>?

Please let your MP's staff know that Priya, Nades and the girls have Alan Jones' support. You can use these talking points:

  • Hello, my name is  _____ and I live in [TOWN/SUBURB].

  • I am calling to ask << Test current_mp >> to contact Immigration Minister David Coleman in support of the Tamil family that was taken from Biloela, QLD in March 2018.

  • Priya and Nades lived in and contributed to the town of Biloela for four years.

  • Nades was a valued employee at the local meatworks, an industry suffering labour shortages.

  • The people of Biloela have demonstrated their strong desire for this family to be returned to their town.

  • Almost 200,000 Australians have signed a petition in support.

  • I believe it is in the public interest for this family to remain permanently in Australia.

  • Mr Coleman should use his Migration Act powers to allow them to stay and I would like << Test current_mp >> to raise this matter with Mr Coleman on my behalf immediately.

  • Thank you.

One last thing - can you please let me know how your call went by clicking through to our action page?

Thank you for everything you are doing for Priya, Nades, Kopika and Tharunicaa. Let's bring them home to Bilo.

In hope,

Angela xxx

*|FNAME|*, 2-year-old Tharunicaa needs our love ❤️

26 July 2019

Hi << Test First Name >>,

Yesterday, little QLD-born Tharunicaa was taken from a Melbourne detention centre to hospital to have four of her teeth surgically removed.

Here she is in the arms of her Dad, Nades, still woozy from the anaesthetic:

Today, I need your help to show all of the love and hope we have for Tharunicaa and her family.

Can you please click through to the facebook pages of the Sydney Morning Herald, The Age and SBS News and leave a positive comment in support of Priya, Nades and girls?

It's so tempting to jump in and reply to negative Facebook comments. But I've noticed that on Facebook, the comments with the most replies and reactions rise to the top.

Most of the time, it's best to reply to other positive comments, which helps more people to see them.

Kids need vitamin D to grow strong teeth and bones. But months of inadequate sunlight and restricted fresh food left this beautiful, inquisitive 2-year-old with a severe vitamin D deficiency, just as her teeth were developing.

The damage done to Tharunicaa's teeth during 17 months of detention is so severe that the pain stopped her from eating solid food. But when her Mum Priya begged for proper treatment, the detention centre staff fobbed her off with Panadol.

<< Test First Name >>, I know this is hard to read. But this is even harder:

That's just one of the misinformed comments posted on the Facebook pages of the Sydney Morning Herald, The Age and SBS News after they reported on Tharunicaa's dental surgery.

Some people making the comments are ill-informed about the vital role of vitamin D in dental health. But others are determined to attack and blame this beautiful, brave family, simply because Priya and Nades came to our shores in search of peace and safety.

Please, can you click through to the facebook pages of the Sydney Morning Herald, The Age and SBS News, leave a positive comment in support of this beautiful family and take a few moments to like and reply to other positive comments you agree with?

For everything you are doing for Priya, Nades, Kopika and Tharunicaa - thank you.

In hope,

Angela xxx

*|FNAME|*, please help our Biloela family!

24 August 2019

Hi << Test First Name >>,

Just days ago, lawyers for Priya and her family passed on some terrible news. Home Affairs officials have blocked any assessment of the dangers faced by two-year-old Tharunicaa in Sri Lanka.

Tomorrow (Sunday) at 12pm, can you please join this emergency gathering at Melbourne's State Library?

At any moment, the guards could come to force this beautiful young family to a war-torn country their Australian-born girls have never known.

Please - I need the people of Melbourne to show they will not give up on this family.

Priya, Nades, Kopika and Tharunicaa have been held in the MITA detention centre in Broadmeadows for almost eighteen months. Right now, Priya is sending me a text every hour to let me know the family is still safe.

But there is still hope. Last night, after thousands of e-mails and phone calls to our elected representatives, our local MP Ken O'Dowd finally spoke out publicly in support of this beautiful family on The Project.

Things feel pretty desperate right now. But I know that the actions you are taking are making a difference.

Time and again the people of Melbourne have shown up for this family. Two weekends ago, over 100 of you braved freezing wind and rain to stand at the detention centre gates and sing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star to four-year-old Kopika by video call.

Please, will you click through to this this facebook event to hear Priya's message and let her know you will show up for her family again tomorrow?

Always hopeful,

Angela

*|FNAME|*, Biloela's MP spoke up for Priya on The Project!

24 August 2019

Hi << Test First Name >>,

Last night, when The Project came to speak with us in Biloela, something incredible happened.

Our local MP, Ken O'Dowd, finally spoke out publicly in support of bringing Priya, Nades and their QLD-born girls home to Biloela.

Can you please give Mr O'Dowd's office a call on (07) 4972 5465 now and leave a voicemail thanking him for speaking up?

Please ask him to continue advocating to bring Priya, Nades and the girls home to Biloela and include full your name, phone number and town to show you are a constituent.

We don't have much time. Now that Home Affairs officials have blocked any assessment of the dangers faced by two-year-old Tharunicaa in Sri Lanka, the guards could come to force this beautiful young family to a war-torn country their Australian-born girls have never known.

Their last and only hope is that government MPs like Mr O'Dowd can persuade Immigration Minister Coleman to step in and bring them home to Biloela.

I wish Mr O'Dowd had spoken up for this family sooner. But right now, Priya and her family desperately need us to encourage our elected representative to continue speaking out until they are all safely home

Once you have left your voicemail, can you please follow up by sending a quick e-mail to ken.o'dowd.mp@aph.gov.au to make sure he hears your message of encouragement loud and clear?

Again, it is very important to mention that you live here in Mr O'Dowd's electorate of Flynn and include your full name and town.

Always hopeful,

Angela

*|FNAME|*, they are lying about Priya and Nades

1 September 2019

Hi << Test First Name >>,

There's so much happening for Priya and Nades right now, so I have to be quick.

Support for Priya, Nades, Kopika and Tharunicaa is growing faster than ever before. Most journalists are doing their best to tell their story as fairly and accurately as they can. But some people are spreading misinformation about this beautiful family on social media and I need your help to share the truth.

Please, can you tap or click through to this news item on the Sunrise facebook page and this one on the Alan Jones facebook page and leave a positive comment there in support of Priya, Nades and the girls?

Over the last 18 months I have learned that best way to be heard on social media is to lead with love, positivity and hope. Replying to negative or trolling comments only makes them more prominent, so please, please just ignore them.

We will be updating a fact sheet to counter some of the silliest false claims soon (believe or not, some people are even spreading the lie that Nades went "on holiday" to Sri Lanka after seeking safety in Australia!) so please check in there for any clarification.

There is going to be a lot of media and social media comment in the coming days and we could see even more misinformation being spread. Once you have left your positive comment on the Alan Jones and Sunrise pages, can you please like these news pages on facebook? That way, you can leave positive comments in support of our beautiful family as soon as they appear:

For everything you are doing to help bring Priya, Nades, Kopika and Tharunicaa safely home to Bilo - thank you.

Always hopeful,

Angela

PS Happy Fathers Day to all the dads out there - thank you for sticking up for our mate Nades!

BREAKING: Jacqui Lambie backs Biloela!

10 September 2019

Hi << Test First Name >>,

Something incredible just happened - Tasmanian Senator Jacqui Lambie has just come out in support of Priya, Nades and the girls!

Please - I urgently need your help right now to show Senator Lambie she has the support of her fellow Tasmanians.

Can you please call Senator Lambie's office on 03 6431 3112 and ask her staff to pass on a message of thanks?

It is very important you let them know you are from Tasmania and leave your name, number and postcode.

Here's what Senator Lambie said when asked about our Biloela family on the ABC RN Drive program yesterday afternoon:

"The community obviously love them ...

"Really, this was a chance for Dutton and his office to show a bit of heart and show some compassion and he has failed to do that and I think it has done him a hell of a lot more harm than bloody good, that’s for sure. But I would really reconsider his position, Dutton, if I was him because it is not very good ...

"This is not the way we do things in this country. You know, they have been great people to have here. They’ve obviously shown that. Like I said, the community uptake has been absolutely amazing out there, so really I think this has not been a good decision by Dutton at all ...

"If I was him, I’d show some compassion and heart. Everyone out there seems to say he hasn’t got any, so he could turn the tide a little bit - I mean, it is sitting in front of him for goodness sake - and let this family stay."

Because Senator Lambie holds the balance of power in the Senate, Prime Minister Morrison needs her vote to pass laws.

If there is one politician whose support could bring Priya, Nades and their Australian-born girls home to Biloela, it is Senator Lambie. But I am worried Mr Dutton will try to bully her into backing down.

Your call to Senator Lambie's office on 03 6431 3112 could be one of the most important you ever make.

It could be the call that finally brings Priya, Nades, Kopika and Tharunicaa safely home to Biloela - for good.

Please - can you call Senator Lambie and pass on your thanks now?

Always hopeful,

Angela

*|FNAME|*, can you help share the truth?

15 September 2019

Hi << Test First Name >>,

By now, you've probably heard the nasty, divisive language Mr Dutton used to incite hatred against Kopika, Tharunicaa and their loving Mum and Dad on a Sydney radio show last week. I won't repeat it here.

On the same Sydney radio program, Mr Dutton was caught spreading another lie. He said Nades “has travelled from Australia, whilst he's been here, with his matters still in the courts.”

The fact-checkers at Australian Associated Press quickly declared Mr Dutton’s claim to be false. The truth is that Nades could not leave Australia. The conditions of his visa did not allow it.

Tonight, The Project told their viewers about Mr Dutton's comments about Nades, and explained why Australian Associated Press says Mr Dutton's claims are false. But on social media, lies can spread faster than the truth.

Can you please help share the truth by clicking through to The Project's facebook page and leaving a positive comment in support of Priya, Nades and the girls now?

It is important to know that on Facebook, comments with lots of replies are shown to more people.

This means that replying to hateful or misinformed comments can do more harm than good, by exposing more people to hate and misinformation. It is much better to leave a positive comment of your own.

Always hopeful,

Angela

PS Once you have left your positive comment, I would you love to join a new facebook group called "Home to Bilo Fact Check", where we are working together to let others know the truth about Priya, Nades and the girls.

*|FNAME|*, our Biloela family have 1 day

18 September 2019

Hi << Test First Name >>,

Today, the Federal Court extended an order stopping Mr Dutton from forcing Priya, Nades and the girls from Australia to danger - by one day.

Whatever happens in court tomorrow, our beautiful family is at the mercy of politicians. And the politicians are influenced by what people say on social media.

But right now, false information and hatred towards this family is being spread on facebook. For the sake of Priya, Nades and the girls, right now I need your help to spread truth, hope and love.

Please, can you tap or click through to these facebook news stories and leave comments expressing truth, hope and love for this beautiful family now?

Before you tap or click through and leave your comments, I just want to share something that happened today that gave me hope. Today, the Deputy Leader of the National Party, Senator Matt Canavan, told Sky News he "welcomed and congratulated" Biloela community members who have "fought and pushed for recognition" for this beautiful family.

For everything you are doing to help bring Priya, Nades, Kopika and Tharunicaa home to Biloela - thank you.

Always hopeful,

Angela

*|FNAME|*, our beautiful Bilo girl will start Prep under guard!

28 January 2020

Hi << Test First Name >>,

On Monday, our beautiful little Biloela girl, Kopika, will be starting prep on Christmas Island.

Kopika will be the only child brought to school by detention centre guards.

Only one of her parents is allowed to join the school drop-off. And when all of the other kids go home at the end of the school day, the guards will come for Kopika and take her back to detention.

Today, can you please send Kopika a message of love and hope by leaving a comment under today's story on The Courier Mail's facebook page?

Our politicians cruelly denied QLD-born sisters Kopika and Tharunicaa the chance to learn and play with other kids for over a year. I'm glad Kopika can finally go to school.

But Kopika and her loving Mum and Dad, Priya and Nades, should be experiencing this special time in Biloela - not locked up on an island prison, 5000km from the town where they are loved and wanted.

Kopika is a bright little girl. Finally, she has a proper chance to learn to read, write and count with other kids.

Please leave a message of support for Kopika on The Courier Mail Facebook page now, so lots of people will see how much love there is for Kopika and her family.

If we gather all the messages together, maybe Kopika can read them for herself one day.

(One last thing, please - never, ever reply to negative or misinformed comments about Kopika and her family on social media. It just means more people see the misinformation!)

Always hopeful,

Angela

*|FNAME|*, our Biloela family needs you!

22 February 2020

Hi << Test First Name >>,

Yesterday, while lawyers for two-year-old Tharunicaa were fighting the good fight in the Federal Court, our beautiful family's Melbourne friends were outside, singing Tharunicaa and her four-year-old sister Kopika's favourite songs.

Channel 7 Brisbane shared a story about Priya, Nades and the girls on their Facebook page late last night. Comments on social media can have a big influence on public opinion and right now, I need your help.

Can you please show Priya, Nades and the girls how much love there is for them in Queensland by tapping through to the Ch 7 Facebook page right now to leave a truthful, positive comment of support?

Please - don't reply or react to any of the negative or trolling comments, as this only makes these comments more prominent. It is much better to flood out the trolls with hope and love by liking and replying to other positive comments!

Thank you for everything you are doing for Priya, Nades, Kopika and Tharunicaa. If you would like to keep helping spread a message of love and positivity for our family, please join the Home to Bilo Fact Check Group on Facebook, where the #hometobilo team share new media stories and tips on how to advocate effectively on social media!

With hope,

Angela

|FNAME|, guards took Priya from hospital

29 July 2020

<< Test First Name >>,

We have just lost contact with our dear friend Priya after she called to say she is being removed from Perth's Fiona Stanley Hospital and taken to the airport by more than 10 guards. Please - Priya urgently needs your help right now.

Can you please call the office of your local representative << Test mp_name >> now on << Test mp_phone_electorate >> and ask that they immediately raise your concern for Priya's safety with Acting Immigration Minister Alan Tudge and Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton?

Priya was heard asking to speak to her legal representative and screaming in distress before the call was cut off. We believe her phone has been taken from her and we are deeply concerned for her welfare.

When you call, please stay calm and polite. Let your representative's staff know that you are concerned for Priya's welfare and that this treatment is unacceptable. Tell them, calmly, that Priya, Nades, Kopika and Tharunicaa belong in Biloela and that the Ministers must exercise their discretion to bring them home safely. Be sure to mention the suburb or town and state you are calling from.

Please - for Priya's safety, can you call your local representative on << Test mp_phone_electorate >> now?

With hope,

Angela

PS You may have already received another urgent email from me via change.org asking you to call Minister Tudge and Prime Minister Morrison. Thank you if you have already made these calls and please do pick up the phone and call your local representative too.

He’s trying to take Priya’s phone

1 September 2020

Hi << Test First Name >>,

This is urgent.

Today, Peter Dutton will try to change Australia’s laws so he can take mobile phones away from Priya, Nades and others who have come to our shores in search of peace and safety - and our Senators are the only ones who can stop him.

Please, can you make a polite phone call to the office of independent Senator Rex Patrick right now? Tap here for the right number and talking points to guide your call.

Priya’s mobile phone is her lifeline. Without it, she couldn’t have contacted friends and neighbours when her family was snatched from their Biloela home two and half years ago.

Without it, she could not have alerted her legal representatives when Mr Dutton tried to force our beautiful Biloela family from Australia to danger one year ago.

And without Priya’s mobile phone, Australians would never have seen the photos and videos of her two QLD-born girls which show that Mr Dutton is lying when he says: “We don’t have any children in detention”.

That’s why I need you to use your phone to make a polite call to Senator Patrick’s office now.

We don’t have much time. Today, Mr Dutton could pass his dangerous law and give himself the power to take Priya’s phone away, forever.

A year ago, guards tried to stop husband Nades from filming when they separated Priya from her distressed little girls after dragging her onto an unmarked plane. But our laws meant they had no power to take his phone away.

Last month, the guards snatched Priya’s phone as they took her from the Perth Hospital where she was undergoing medical tests. But our laws meant they had to give it back.

Tap here for some tips on making your call to Senator Patrick count. If you can’t get through to Senator Patrick’s South Australian office, please call his Parliamentary office on (02) 6277 3785.

For everything you do for Priya, Nades and the girls - thank you.

In hope,

Angela

*|FNAME|*, our Biloela family needs Tassie's help today

3 September 2020

Hi << Test First Name >>,

Yesterday, Peter Dutton pushed ahead with his plan to change our laws and take away Priya's mobile phone forever. But our Senators - including your independent Senator for Tasmania, Jacqui Lambie - still have the power to stop him.

If you have already made a polite phone call to Senator Lambie's office - thank you.

If you have not used your phone to speak up for Priya, please make your polite call to Senator Lambie's Tasmanian office on (03) 6431 3112 now, before Senator Lambie votes on Peter Dutton's plan.

Please ask Senator Lambie's staff to thank her for speaking up for our Biloela family a year ago. And please, please respectfully ask Senator Lambie to stop Peter Dutton taking Priya's mobile phone away forever.

Senator Lambie has been a friend to our Biloela family. One year ago, after Peter Dutton forced Priya, Nades their Australian-born girls to Christmas Island, she said:

"Really, this was a chance for Dutton and his office to show a bit of heart and show some compassion and he has failed to do that and I think it has done him a hell of a lot more harm than bloody good, that’s for sure. But I would really reconsider his position, Dutton, if I was him because it is not very good.

"This is not the way we do things in this country. You know, they have been great people to have here, they’ve obviously shown that, like I said, the community uptake has been absolutely amazing out there, so really I think this has not been a good decision by Dutton at all.

"If I was him, I’d show some compassion and heart. Everyone out there seems to say he hasn’t got any, so he could turn the tide a little bit. I mean, it is sitting in front of him for goodness sake, and let this family say."

Today, as a Tasmanian represented by Senator Lambie, your phone call could make the difference between Priya being able to contact her Biloela friends and legal representatives - or being cut off, isolated and vulnerable.

That's why I'm asking you to use your freedom - and your phone - to speak up for our Biloela family now, while there is still time.

I know that calling a politician's office can seem daunting. But other Tasmanians have told me that Senator Lambie's staff have treated them politely and respectfully when they called. And if you are unsure of what to say, you can find some tips to guide your call by clicking or tapping the link above.

And Australians would never have seen the photos and videos of her two QLD-born girls which show that Mr Dutton is lying when he says: “We don’t have any children in detention”.

The Senate could vote on Peter Dutton's changes to our laws today - please, will you make a polite phone call to Senator Lambie's office on (03) 6431 3112?

If you can’t get through to Senator Lambie’s Tasmanian office, please call her Parliamentary office on (02) 6277 3614.

Thank you so much for all of your support for Priya, Nades and the girls. With your help, I know we can bring them safely home to Biloela, where they belong.

In hope,

Angela

*|FNAME|*, Peter Dutton backed down!

4 September 2020

Hi << Test First Name >>,

I'm so relieved. Yesterday, Peter Dutton hit 'pause' on his plan to push his cruel Mobile Phone Ban bill through the Senate. For now, no-one can take Priya's mobile phone away - but he will try again the next time Parliament sits.

Right now, Tasmanian Senator Jacqui Lambie is deciding whether she will vote against Peter Dutton's plan to take mobile phones away from Priya and others like her - and she is asking you for advice on how she should vote: www.senatorlambie.com.au/advise_jacqui

Today, can you please fill in this form on Senator Lambie's website? Please tell her - in your own respectful words - why she must vote against Peter Dutton's Mobile Phone Ban bill.

One year ago, after Peter Dutton had guards drag Priya onto an unmarked plane in front of her two little, they tried to take husband Nades' phone as he filmed them stopping his distressed children going to their mother for comfort. Because of our laws, they could not take Nades' phone.

In July, when guards ambushed Priya at the Perth Hospital she had been taken to for medical tests unavailable on Christmas Island, they forcibly took her phone from her as she begged for the right to contact her legal representative. Because of our laws, they had to give it back.

Today, can you please take a moment to complete Senator Lambie's form and tell her, in your own polite words, why she should vote against Peter Dutton's plan to take mobile phones away from Priya and other people in detention who have come to our shores seeking peace and safety?

Remember that Senator Lambie has been a friend to our Biloela family. Last year, when asked for her thoughts about their treatment, she said:

"This is not the way we do things in this country. You know, they have been great people to have here, they’ve obviously shown that, like I said, the community uptake has been absolutely amazing out there, so really I think this has not been a good decision by Dutton at all."

For everything you do for Priya and her family - thank you.

In hope,

Angela

*|FNAME|*, your vote could stop Peter Dutton taking Priya's phone!

13 September 2020

Hi << Test First Name >>,

Peter Dutton is still trying to push his cruel Mobile Phone Ban bill through the Senate. If he succeeds, he could take away Priya's mobile phone and cut off our Biloela family's lifeline forever

Only independent Senator Jacqui Lambie has the power to stop Peter Dutton from doing this. Right now, Senator Lambie is asking you to tell her which way she should vote on Mr Dutton's cruel laws, by casting your vote on her website.

Senator Lambie could make up her mind at any moment. If you have already cast your vote - thank you.

If you haven't yet voted, can you please tap through to Senator Lambie's website and vote 'no' to Peter Dutton's cruel plan, right now?

Senator Lambie has been a friend to our Biloela family.

Remember that when Peter Dutton had guards drag Priya onto an unmarked plane in front of her two little, the guards tried to take husband Nades' phone. Those guards did not want you to see them stopping Priya's distressed children going to their mum for comfort. Because of our laws, Peter Dutton could not take hide this from you.

In July, the guards forcibly took Priya's phone after ambushing her at a Perth Hospital, even as she begged for her right to contact her legal representative. Without our laws, she may never have gotten it back and Peter Dutton could have cut off Priya's lifeline to her friends and supporters - forever.

Please - take a moment right now to vote 'no' to Peter Dutton's plan to take mobile phones away from Priya and other people in detention who have come to our shores seeking peace and safety.

Thank you for everything you do for our Biloela family.

In hope,

Angela

*|FNAME|*, our Biloela family won in court again!

17 February 2021

Hi << Test First Name >>,

Yesterday, the full Federal Court upheld its ruling that Tharnicaa, the youngest member of our Biloela family, has been denied "procedural fairness".

It's a huge relief. But our family is still trapped in detention on Christmas Island, and only our politicians have the power to bring them home to Biloela.

Terrifyingly, local friends have told me that before yesterday's court decision, there was an unmarked plane waiting on Christmas Island. I can't bear to think of what could happen if Priya, Nades and their two QLD-born girls were dragged onto a plane and forced from Australia to danger.

This morning, our family's lawyer, Carina Ford, told Channel 7's Sunrise program about the plane.

Please, can you tap or click through to the Sunrise Facebook page now and leave a message of love, support and hope for our beautiful family?

If you are part of our 'Fact Check' group, you will already know how important it is to follow these guidelines, which help to bring positive and truthful information to the top when commenting on Facebook. Please:

• DO reply to other positive comments, this helps bring them to the top

• DO ‘love’ other positive comments

• DO leave new, positive comments in support of Priya, Nades and the girls

• NEVER EVER reply to negative or misinformed comments (this increases the number of people who see the misinformation)

• DON'T ‘React’ to negative or misinformed comments with the 'sad' or 'angry' buttons

• DON'T participate in name-calling or abuse of anyone, including politician

Please tap or click through to the Sunrise Facebook page now and leave your positive message now.

And remember - never reply to negative or misinformed comments. It only brings them to the top!

For everything you are doing to help our beautiful family - thank you.

In hope,

Angela

*|FNAME|*, can you do this for our Biloela girls?

19 February 2021

Hi << Test First Name >>,

For almost three years, we've fought long and hard to bring Priya, Nades and their QLD-born girls home to Biloela. The outpouring of support over the last few days - including the thousands of heartfelt e-mails you have sent to Immigration Minister Hawke - tells me that more Australians than ever now stand with this family.

Politicians are starting to speak out. Earlier this week, my Federal Member of Parliament, Ken O'Dowd, told the ABC: "My heart says they should be allowed to return to Biloela". Yesterday, Warren Snowdon, who represents the people of Christmas Island, told Parliament of their overwhelming wish to give Priya, Nades and the girls their freedom.

Now, the power to bring this family home to Biloela has been handed to new Immigration Minister Alex Hawke, whose family came across the sea seeking freedom and safety - just like Priya and Nades.

Today, I urgently need you to pick up the phone and make a respectful phone call to Mr Hawke's office on 02 6277 7770 and show his team how much love and support Australians have for our beautiful family.

Please let Mr Hawke's staff know that you are asking him to use his discretionary powers to bring Priya, Nades and their beautiful girls home to Biloela, where they belong.

I know picking up the phone to a politician's office can seem daunting. But don't worry - you can find simple talking points to guide your call by tapping or clicking through to our action page. That's also where you can let me know how your call went.

Two weeks from today, it will be exactly three years since Priya, Nades and the girls were snatched from their Biloela home at dawn.

The photo on the left was taken in Biloela, not long before that terrible day. The one on the right shows how our two little "Biloela cockatoos" have grown in the 1,082 days that our politicians have kept them detained.

Kopika and Tharnicaa are the only kids held in immigration detention in Australia. They are the only children escorted to kindy and primary school under guard. And they were born here on Australian soil.

Today - for Kopi and Tharni - please pick up the phone and make that polite, respectful call to Minister Hawke's office on 02 6277 7770.

Thank you as always for being there for our Biloela family.

In hope,

Angela

PS If you can't get through the first time, please keep trying. Most calls to the Minister's office are short, but if you would like more information to help you prepare, please have a read of this fact sheet that we have prepared.

*|FNAME|*, we put a #HometoBilo billboard near you

4 March 2021

Hi << Test First Name >>,

Ask one Minister to circle one word on one document.

That's all Scott Morrison needs to do to free Priya, Nades and their QLD-born girls from detention on Christmas Island and home to Biloela, where they belong.

He could do it this afternoon. That's why we've put up crowdfunded billboards like the one below in key locations in inner Brisbane, North Sydney and southern Sydney. But to bring this family home, I need your help right now.

Can you please make a quick but polite call to Mr Morrison's team on 02 6277 7700 before 5pm (6pm QLD time) today?

Here are some simple points you can make when you call Mr Morrison's team on 02 6277 7700:

  • Hello, my name is {YOUR NAME} and I live in {YOUR TOWN/SUBURB}

  • I'm calling to ask Mr Morrison to speak to the Immigration Minister about bringing Priya, Nades and their QLD-born girls home to Biloela

  • Unless the Minister steps in, tomorrow this family will start their fourth year of detention under Mr Morrison's watch

  • The Department of Home Affairs recommended that the Immigration Minister consider granting this family a visa to remain in Australia almost two years ago

  • Michael McCormack, Barnaby Joyce, Julie Bishop, Tony Abbott and Senator Jim Molan all wrote to the Minister about this family

  • The people of Biloela have demonstrated their strong wish for Priya, Nades and their Australian-born girls to come home to their town

  • Over 360,000 Australians have signed a petition to bring Priya, Nades and the girls home to Biloela

  • Thank you for your time

Mr Morrison's team listen politely to most calls and promise to pass on a message. But if you would like to have the detailed facts at your finger tips, you can find a fact sheet here.

Thank you for all you do for Priya, Nades and the girls.

In hope,

Angela

Biloela vigil in Yeppoon tonight!

5 March 2021

Hi << Test First Name >>,

It's three years to the day since our Priya, Nades and the girls were taken from their home and I've just heard that our Yeppoon friends are holding a peaceful vigil in support at 6pm tonight (Friday) in Beaman Park.

I hope you can join this family friendly vigil tonight. If you can, please tap through to this Facebook event and choose 'Going' to let me know you'll be there. Please also tag and share with friends and family in the area.

Our Yeppoon vigil is one of 17 being held around Australia today, including the dawn vigil we held in Biloela. Please bring candles and download and print a Biloela cockatoo to show your support in Yeppoon at 6pm tonight.

Thank you for all you do for Priya, Nades and the girls.

In hope,

Angela

*|FNAME|*, the PM could bring Priya home today

5 March 2021

Hi << Test First Name >>,

Ask one Minister to circle one word on one document.

That's all Scott Morrison needs to do to free Priya, Nades and their QLD-born girls from detention on Christmas Island and home to Biloela, where they belong.

It's three years to the day since the guards took Priya and her family at dawn. But Scott Morrison could bring this family home from Christmas Island to Biloela today - if enough of us speak up.

Please, can you tap here to make a quick but polite call to Mr Morrison's team on 02 6277 7700 right now?

If you have already called Mr Morrison's office today (thank you!) or you are having trouble getting through, please tap here to call your Senators.

Here are some simple points you can make during your call:

  • Hello, my name is {YOUR NAME} and I live in {YOUR TOWN/SUBURB and STATE}

  • I'm calling to because I would like Prime Minister Morrison to speak to the Immigration Minister about bringing Priya, Nades and their QLD-born girls home to Biloela

  • Today, under Mr Morrison's watch, this family reached their third year of detention

But if you would like to have the detailed facts at your finger tips when you call Mr Morrison's team on 02 6277 7700, you can find a fact sheet here.

Thank you for everything you are doing for Priya, Nades and the girls.

In hope,

Angela

*|FNAME|*, Karen Andrews could bring this family home to Biloela today

31 March 2021

Hi << Test First Name >>,

This is huge. Yesterday, Karen Andrews succeeded Peter Dutton as the Minister for Home Affairs. Ms Andrews told ABC radio she expected to be briefed on our Biloela family this morning.

Ms Andrews now has the power, under Australian law, to bring Priya, Nades and their QLD-born girls home to Biloela - but she needs to know she will have the support of colleagues, like your local representative, << Test mp_name >>.

Our beautiful Biloela family urgently need you to give the team at your local MP's office a polite call on << Test mp_phone_electorate >> today - please, can you pick up the phone now?

Since this news broke, almost 5,000 people from around Australia have e-mailed Ms Andrews in support of Priya, Nades, Kopika and Tharnicaa. If you are one of those 4,715 people, thank you.

It's so important that your local MP hears a clear message of support from people who live in their electorate. Right now, a polite phone call from you is literally one of the most powerful actions anyone can take to bring Priya, Nades and the girls home to Bilo.

Please, can you make a respectful call to your local MP's team on << Test mp_phone_electorate >> now? Click or tap here to let me know how it went.

Here are some simple points you can make when you call << Test mp_name >>'s team on << Test mp_phone_electorate >>:

  • Hello, my name is {YOUR NAME} and I live in {YOUR TOWN/SUBURB}

  • I understand that the new Home Affairs Minister, Karen Andrews now has the power to grant visas to the Biloela family

  • I would like {YOUR MP} to contact Ms Andrews and Immigration Minister Alex Hawke and ask them to use their powers to bring Priya, Nades, Kopika and Tharnicaa home to Biloela immediately

  • Priya and Nades are hard-working, productive members of the Biloela community who were taken from their homes in March 2018

  • Over the last three years, the people of Biloela have demonstrated their strong wish to welcome Priya, Nades and their QLD-born girls back home to their town

  • I understand that the Department of Home Affairs recommended that the former Immigration Minister grant this family visas to allow them to live freely in the community almost two years ago

  • I also understand that Michael McCormack, Barnaby Joyce, Julie Bishop, Tony Abbott and Senator Jim Molan all wrote to the former Minister regarding the family

  • I understand that Ms Andrews expects to be briefed on the family today and again ask {YOUR MP} to contact Ms Andrews and Mr Hawke and ask them to use their new powers to bring them home to Biloela immediately

  • Thank you for your time

After you have made your call, please click or tap here to tell me know how it went.

<< Test First Name >>, I know it can feel daunting to call the office of a politician. But you don't need to be an expert - the most important thing is simply to pick up the phone and politely make your opinion known.

Electorate staff are trained to listen politely and pass on a message. But if you would like to have the detailed facts at your finger tips, you can find a fact sheet here.

For everything you are doing to bring Priya, Nades and the girls home to Biloela - thank you.

With hope,

Angela

How can Peter Dutton do this?

15 April 2021

Hi << Test First Name >>,

This is so shocking. Yesterday, the Department of Home Affairs granted Senator Kristina Keneally permission to visit our Biloela family during next week’s bipartisan trip to Christmas Island, with other MPs who are part of the same Committee.

22 minutes later, newly Defence Minister Peter Dutton withdrew permission for the bipartisan Committee to use a government aircraft.

While Mr Dutton may control the use of government aircraft, it is so important to remember that new Home Affairs Minister Karen Andrews and Immigration Minister Alex Hawke can bring Priya, Nades and their QLD-born girls home to Biloela with the stroke of a pen.

Senator Keneally visited our Biloela family!

20 April 2021

Hi << Test First Name >>,

Shadow Home Affairs Minister Kristina Keneally's visit to Christmas Island Priya, Nades, Kopika and Tharnicaa has attracted lots of media coverage - and Senator Keneally has confirmed that she would bring this much-loved family home to Biloela, if she were sworn in as Minister one day.

But three year old Tharni and four year old Kopi can’t wait for a change in government. These QLD-born girls have now been detained by politicians for the majority of their short lives - and every day adds to the harm being done to these gorgeous girls, in our names.

Please, will you have your say now by leaving a positive, truthful (and unique!) comment in support of Priya, Nades and the girls beneath all three of these stories on the 9 News, 7 News and WIN News Facebook pages?

23 April 2021

Hi << Test First Name >>,

Did you see the ABC's Q&A last night? When former Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull was asked about our Biloela family, he said:

"That family should be back in Queensland and I hope the Minister takes the opportunity … to use her discretion and bring them back to Queensland to the community that wants them."

Thank you if you have joined the many thousands of people showing your support for our Biloela family with positive, truthful comments on social media over the last few days, including on today's story on the SBS News site. It is one thing that we can all do to make a difference.

*|FNAME|*, Tharni from Biloela is in a Perth hospital

8 June 2021

Hi << Test First Name >>,

I'm desperately worried for little Tharnicaa. Yesterday, she was evacuated from Christmas Island to Perth with a suspected blood infection.

Her mum Priya has been asking for medical attention since Tuesday last week, but the staff at the Christmas Island detention centre refused to take her to hospital until Sunday.

Now she's in the care of the wonderful doctors and nurses at Perth Children's Hospital - but she urgently needs your help.

Please, can tap here to let me know you'll join our peaceful candlelight vigil at Perth Children's Hospital at 6pm tomorrow (Wednesday) WA time?

Our friends at Refugee Rights Action Network WA are helping us organise this peaceful, COVID-safe vigil outside the hospital.

At 6pm they'll gather with candles beneath the big "Royal Children's Hospital" sign on Winthrop Avenue, halfway between Abadare Road and Monash Avenue, stretching out along the hospital boundary to form a chain of "human fairy lights" for Tharnicaa.

Please, will you show your support for Tharni and the doctors and nurses of Perth Children's Hospital by joining this urgent, peaceful vigil and inviting your friends?

With hope,

Angela

Sydney vigil for Tharni from Biloela

9 June 2021

Hi << Test First Name >>,

On Sunday, our little Biloela "cockatoo", Tharni, was evacuated from Christmas Island to Perth with a suspected blood infection.

Please, can tap here to let me know you'll join this peaceful candlelight vigil in Hyde Park at 5pm tomorrow (Thursday)?

Tharni's mum Priya had been asking for medical attention since Tuesday last week, but the staff at the Christmas Island detention centre refused to take her to hospital until Sunday.

Now she's in the care of the wonderful doctors and nurses at Perth Children's Hospital - but she urgently needs your help to show how many people want to see her safely home in Biloela, with her big sister Kopika and loving Mum and Dad, Priya and Nades.

Our friends at Mums4Refugees are helping us organise this peaceful, COVID-safe vigil in Hyde Park, near the Archibald Fountain.

Please, will you show your support for Tharni and her family by joining this urgent, peaceful vigil and inviting your friends?

With hope,

Angela

There is hope for Tharni!

10 June 2021

Hi << Test First Name >>,

As one of our Biloela family's most dedicated supporters, I need your urgent help.

Today, we have new hope for Priya and her family. Early this morning, media reported that Immigration Minister Alex Hawke is considering allowing Tharni to apply for a visa.

But then, Channel 7 reported that Home Affairs Minister Karen Andrews told Sunrise the government "wanted them to return to Sri Lanka or stay in detention".

Please - can you tap through to the Sunrise facebook page now and leave a comment expressing love, hope and support for Priya, Nades, Tharni and Kopika?

It is so important to reply to and 'like' other positive comments, which helps bring them to the top. Please don't ever reply to hateful or misinformed comments.

Here are some other tips to make sure your social media comments make a positive difference for Priya, Nades, Tharni and Kopika:

  • NEVER reply to negative or misinformed comments (this increases the number of people who see the misinformation)

  • DON'T participate in name-calling or abuse of anyone, including Minister Andrews

  • DON'T use hashtags (like #hometobilo)

  • DO reply in support of other positive comments

  • DO ‘like’ as many other positive comments as you can

  • DO leave a new, positive comment of your own

Please, will you tap here to have your say on the Sunrise facebook page now?

Thank you so much for everything you are doing to help bring Priya, Nades, Kopika and Tharnicaa safely home to Biloela.

With hope,

Angela

*|FNAME|*, your MP spoke up for our Biloela family!

13 June 2021

Hi << Test First Name >>,

This is huge.

I don’t know how to thank everyone who lives in the electorate of North Sydney. Yesterday, your local MP, Trent Zimmerman joined with government MPs Ken O'Dowd, Jason Falinski and Dr Katie Allen to speak out publicly in support of Priya, Nades and the girls.

Yesterday, Mr Zimmerman said: "It's time they came back to the mainland and are allowed to settle in the community that has so strongly embraced them."

Today, can you please do something I’ve never asked before and contact Mr Zimmerman's office to say ‘thank you’ and encourage him to keep speaking up for Priya, Nades and the girls?

Please call Mr Zimmerman's electorate office on (02) 9929 9822 today and leave a polite voice message, including your full name and suburb, thanking him for speaking up.

If you would like to e-mail Zimmerman at Trent.Zimmerman.MP@aph.gov.au, please remember to say 'thank you' and include your full name and address to show that you live in the North Sydney electorate.

I still can't quite believe that government MPs are finally starting to speak out, but I do know we have your phone calls, letters and e-mails to thank.

Whether or not your local MP is aligned with your values on other issues, it is so important to show that the people they represent want them to speak up for our Biloela family - so please do leave Mr Zimmerman a voicemail on (02) 9929 9822 or send him an e-mail at Trent.Zimmerman.MP@aph.gov.au to say 'thank you' and encourage him to keep speaking up.

Thank you so much for the important part you are playing to bring Priya, Nades and the girls safely #hometobilo.

With hope,

Angela

Barnaby Joyce supports our Biloela family!

14 June 2021

Hi << Test First Name >>,

I hope you've seen my other e-mail today with news about the growing number of government MPs speaking out publicly for Priya, Nades and the girls.

Now, Barnaby Joyce has re-stated his support on Channel 7's Sunrise program.

Please - can you tap through to the Sunrise facebook page now and leave a comment showing that you want the politicians to bring Tharni and her family from to Biloela now?

By now, I think we all know how important it is to reply to and 'like' other positive comments, which helps bring them to the top.

Please don't ever reply to hateful or misinformed comments, even to correct them - this is what the trolls and hate groups want, as it means more people see the misinformation.

Here are some other tips to make sure your social media comments make a positive difference for Priya, Nades, Tharni and Kopika:

  • NEVER reply to negative or misinformed comments (this increases the number of people who see the misinformation)

  • DON'T participate in name-calling or abuse of anyone, including politicians

  • DON'T use hashtags (like #hometobilo) when commenting on news pages

  • DO reply in support of other positive comments

  • DO ‘like’ as many other positive comments as you can

  • DO leave a new, positive comment of your own

Please, will you tap here to have your say on the Sunrise facebook page now?

I know I send a lot of e-mails and ask for your help so often, but it is all of the little actions we are taking together that will bring this family safely home to Biloela.

Thank you so much for everything you are doing for Priya, Nades, Kopika and Tharnicaa.

With hope,

Angela

PS If you would like to be part of a Facebook group helping to share truthful, positive information about our Biloela family on social media please tap here to join the Home to Bilo Fact Check group.

We're in Perth with Priya, Nades and the girls!

17 June 2021

Hi << Test First Name >>,

I just wanted to send a super quick e-mail to let you know that Priya and Nades’ dear friend Vashini and I arrived in Perth this afternoon (with Vashini’s beautiful bub!) - as you can see there were smiles all round!

We owe all of our wonderful Perth supporters such a huge ‘thank you’ for the way you’ve turned out for Priya, Nades, Kopika and Tharnicaa time and time again.

Your actions over the last two weeks have played such a big part in getting the whole family off Christmas Island and Vashini and I are looking forward to seeing you this Saturday.

Can you tap through to this Facebook event to let us know you’ll come to our family-friendly event in Forrest Place at 2pm (WA time) this Saturday?

Remember to use the “invite" button to tell all your friends!

We still have a long way to go to get Priya, Nades and the girls home to Bilo but I hope the events we’re holding around the country on Saturday will be both a celebration and a sign to the politicians that we will never give up on this family.

With hope,

Angela

Are you coming tomorrow?

18 June 2021

Hi << Test First Name >>,

I'm in Perth with Priya, Nades and the girls right now, but I just wanted to send a super quick e-mail to let you know that Yumi Stynes will be speaking at tomorrow's event in Sydney in support of our beautiful Biloela family.

As someone who has done more than just sign a petition, your actions have played a big part in getting Priya, Nades and the girls off Christmas Island. Thank you.

Can you tap through to this Facebook event to say you’re coming to this family-friendly #hometobilo event at the Archibald Fountain in Hyde Park at 1pm tomorrow (Saturday)?

If you've already said you're coming - thank you. There's still time to invite friends and family by tapping the "invite" button in the Facebook event. Believe me, it makes a big difference to be personally invited by someone you know.

Your actions helped get this family off Christmas Island, but with Immigration Alex Hawke refusing to rule our forcing Priya, Nades and the girls from Australia to danger, we still have a long way to go to get Priya, Nades and the girls home to Bilo.

I hope you'll join Yumi tomorrow and help show that Priya, Nades, Kopika and Tharnicaa's NSW friends won't give up until we get this family safely home to Biloela.

With hope,

Angela

*|FNAME|*, our Biloea family's QLD friends need to know this

25 June 2021

Hi << Test First Name >>,

I know I send a lot of e-mails and ask for a lot of help, but I'm still in Perth supporting Priya, Nades and the girls and as one of this family's strongest supporters, I need to tell you why I'm so worried about this week's news.

This week, Immigration Minister Alex Hawke announced that he had granted three month "bridging visas" to Priya, Nades and six-year-old Kopika - but not four-year-old Tharnicaa. While Tharni is without a visa, there is no way this family can come home to Queensland.

Please, can you make a respectful phone call to the office of QLD Senator Matt Canavan on (07) 4927 2003 now?

Tap here for tips on what to say and to tell me how your call went.

I don't know why Minister Hawke has denied Tharni a visa, but I know it isn't normal. And with the way certain politicians have attacked Priya, Nades and the girls in the media, I know our friends won't be safe until their bags are on the ground in Biloela.

This family's long ordeal needs to end - and for that to happen, Senators like Mr Canavan need to start listening to Queenslanders and speak up for this family now, before it's too late.

Thanks to your calls and e-mails, six government MPs have already come out in support of Priya, Nades and the girls, including now Deputy Prime Minister, Barnaby Joyce.

Like Mr Joyce, Senator Canavan met with family friend Bronwyn and I in Canberra back in September 2019. At the time, Senator Canavan even told Sky News he "welcomes and congratulates" Biloela's advocacy for Priya, Nades, Kopika and Tharnicaa.

Today, as a fellow Queenslander, I urgently need your help to send a simple, respectful message to government Senators, like Mr Canavan - this family must be free to come home to Biloela.

Please, can you tap here to make your respectful call to Senator Canavan's team on (07) 4927 2003 now?

With hope,

Angela

*|FNAME|*, a Tasmanian politician attacked our Biloela family in the paper

30 June 2021

Hi << Test First Name >>,

If Immigration Minister Alex Hawke had granted three month "bridging visas" to all members of our Biloela family instead of denying one to four-year-old Tharnicaa, Priya, Nades and the girls would be home in Biloela right now.

Instead, they're in lockdown in Perth, 2300km from their Queensland home. And with the way certain politicians are attacking this beautiful family in the media, I know our friends won't be safe until their bags are on the ground in Biloela.

Today, can you help by making a respectful phone call to your Tasmanian government Senators? Let me explain why.

Independent Tasmanian politicians like Andrew Wilkie MP and Senator Jacqui Lambie have been speaking out in support of Priya, Nades and the girls for years. The biggest breakthrough yet was when Tasmanian government MP Bridget Archer joined five other government MPs to call on the Immigration Minister to bring this family home to Biloela.

But today, Tasmanian Senator Eric Abetz attacked Priya, Nades and the girls in an inaccurate and misleading article in the Launceston Examiner.

I know that your respectful phone calls work. It's why government MPs like Bridget Archer and independent Senators like Jacqui Lambie have come out in support of Priya, Nades and the girls.

As you can hear in the video above, Senator Lambie had some strong words for the politicians who are stopping Priya, Nades and the girls from coming home to Biloela - and I can understand her passion. But when you call your Senators' teams, it's so important to speak calmly and politely at all times.

Can you please tap here to give your Senator's office a call? If you like, you can make some of these points in your own, respectful words:

Sri Lanka is a dangerous place for Tamil people forced to return

  • Numerous human rights organisations including Amnesty International, Freedom from Torture and the UN Human Rights Commissioner have found that Tamil people continue to face severe human rights abuse in Sri Lanka.

  • Tamil people who came to Australia seeking safety have been pressured or forced to return to Sri Lanka by the Australian government, based on inaccurate information.

Australian courts have no power to assess the facts in refugee cases

  • Australian courts have no power to grant or deny refugee status. They can’t assess the facts, they can only look at whether officials have followed certain processes.

  • A report the Australian Government uses to dismiss the dangers Tamil people face in Sri Lanka has been rejected by a UK tribunal with equivalent status to the UK High Court.

Politicians chose to keep Priya, Nades and their QLD-born daughters in detention for over three years

  • It is everyone’s right to have important government decisions made about them to be reviewed, especially where human life or safety is concerned.

  • Politicians have always had the power to allow the family to live in the community - it was the Australian government’s decision to keep Priya, Nades and the girls in detention unnecessarily for over three years.

Please, can you tap here to make your respectful call to Tasmanian government Senators now?

With hope,

Angela

PS Another really powerful thing you can do today is tap here to send a 150-200 word "letter to the editor" for publication in the Launceston Examiner. Please use your own words - "cut and paste" letters never get published!

*|FNAME|*, the Deputy PM just spoke up for our Biloela family

15 July 2021

Hi << Test First Name >>,

This is urgent. Minister Alex Hawke is refusing to grant four-year-old Tharni the same 3 month visas he has given to her sister, mum and dad.

That’s why Priya, Nades and the girls are trapped in Perth, 3400km from their Biloela home. And when those visas run out in 70 days, there is every chance the politicians will force this beautiful family from Australia to danger.

Please, can you help by sending a polite message to QLD Senator Matt Canavan? You can e-mail him at Senator.Canavan@aph.gov.au. It's very important to include your full name and address.

I've heard Priya and Nades' stories and I know this family won't be safe until their bags touch the ground in Biloela.

This week in Gladstone, Senator Canavan stood beside Barnaby Joyce as Mr Joyce re-affirmed his support for bringing Priya, Nades and the girls home to Biloela, as Deputy Prime Minister. Mr Joyce said his view on our family remained "constant".

"My heart primarily goes out to those girls, who were born in Australia," Mr Joyce said.

Mr Joyce is one of six government MPs that have spoken up publicly in support of Priya, Nades, Kopi and Tharni. Believe me - this would never have happened without all of your letters, calls and e-mails.

It is almost two years since Senator Canavan said: “I welcome and congratulate those local people who have fought and pushed for recognition of this family’s plight.”

But Senator Canavan has never publicly called on the Minister to bring Priya, Nades and the girls home to Biloela.

Now, with Barnaby Joyce re-affirming his support for our Biloela family as Deputy Prime Minister, it’s time for Senator Canavan to speak up and get this family home to Biloela now, before it’s too late.

Today, can you send Mr Canavan an e-mail at Senator.Canavan@aph.gov.au and tell him, in your own respectful words, why you believe Priya, Nades and the girls must be allowed to come home to Biloela, where they are welcome, wanted and needed? You can also call his office on (07) 4927 2003 - be sure to mention your town or suburb.

Please ask Senator Canavan to publicly call on Immigration Minister Alex Hawke to bring this family come home to Biloela with the stroke of a pen, by granting a visa to four year old Tharnicaa, just as he has for her sister Kopika, mum Priya and Dad Nades - and remember to include your full name and address.

Together, we got this family off Christmas Island. Now, I need your help to get them safely #hometobilo.

I hope you can help by sending your respectful e-mail to Senator Canavan today.

With hope,

Angela

Kids should breathe freedom and live like birds

29 July 2021

Hi << Test First Name >>,

With so much going on around Australia right now, it’s hard to believe it is more than five weeks since Minister Hawke granted three month bridging visas to Priya, Nades and Kopika.

But even though Minister Hawke’s powers to grant visas are beyond the reach of any court, he chose to withhold a visa from four-year-old Tharni.

This means Tharni is still in “community detention”. This is how the politicians are stopping our beautiful family coming home to the safety of Biloela.

When the three month bridging visas expire, the immigration guards could come for Priya, Nades and the girls and force them Australia to danger, just like they’ve tried to do three times before.

This Saturday, can you join the Tamil Refugee Council’s online event? They'll explain the dangers Tamil people like Priya, Nades, Kopi and Tharni face in Sri Lanka - and why it is so urgent that we get this family safely home to Bilo.

Since Tharni was medically evacuated from Christmas Island to Perth in June, it feels like all of Australia knows that Priya, Nades and the girls are welcome, wanted and needed in Biloela.

But hardly anyone heard that just a few weeks earlier, a British tribunal with the same status as the UK High Court threw out a flawed report Australian officials use to deny the dangers faced by Tamil people like Priya, Nades, Kopi and Tharni.

I’ve heard Priya and Nades’ stories. I’ve seen the fear in their eyes when they speak about the dangers they escaped before finding peace and safety in Biloela.

But more people need to know exactly what’s at stake for this family.

That’s why I’m inviting you to join this Saturday’s online event on Zoom, hosted by our friends at the Tamil Refugee Council.

As parents, Priya and Nades’ greatest fear isn’t for themselves - it’s for the safety of their two beautiful, QLD-born daughters.

As Priya says: “Kids should be free and happy. They should breathe freedom and live like birds.”

Please tap here to say you’ll join this online event on Saturday to learn why we are fighting so hard to get Priya, Nades and the girls safely home to a life of freedom in Biloela, where they belong.

With hope,

Angela

PS Please show you’ll be there by tapping through to the Facebook event - if you don’t have Facebook, you can still join the event this Saturday 31st July at 6pm AEST using this Zoom link: https://uni-sydney.zoom.us/j/88529909092

*|FNAME|*, I heard your MP supports our Biloela family!

5 August 2021

Hi << Test First Name >>,

My mind is always thinking "back to Bilo".

That’s what Priya told me six weeks ago when I saw her at a Perth hospital, where little Tharni was recovering after being medically evacuated from a Christmas Island detention centre.

It’s hard to believe, after everything this family has been through - but Priya, Nades and the girls are still in danger.

When the temporary visas granted to Tharni's mum, dad and sister run out in 48 days, the politicians could put this family back into detention - or force them from Australia to Sri Lanka, where terrible things happen to Tamil people.

But there's hope. This week, staff from the office of your government MP, << Test mp_name >>, told constituents that << Test mp_title_name >> has asked Immigration Minister Hawke to bring the family home to Biloela. Some were told that the more calls MPs get, the better.

Parliament is sitting today and << Test mp_title_name >> is there as your representative.

Please, can you call << Test mp_name >>'s office now on << Test mp_phone_electorate >>?

By contacting politicians or giving generously to help fund more than 20 billboards around Australia, you’ve played a big part in persuading six other government MPs to publicly speak out in support of our family.

If you’ve already made a call to << Test mp_title_name >> this week, thank you. I know how daunting it can be to call a politician’s office for the first time. But right now, a phone call to your MP is the single most powerful step you can take to help keep this family safe.

If you haven’t called yet, can you please make today the day you give << Test mp_name >>’s team a call on << Test mp_phone_electorate >> and politely let them know you want << Test mp_title_name >> to publicly speak up to get this family safely home in Biloela now?

Tap here for tips on what to say and to let me know how your call went - this way we can keep track of what different MPs are saying.

Overwhelming public pressure forced Immigration Minister Alex Hawke to re-unite this family on the mainland. But by granting temporary visas to everyone in the family except four-year-old Tharni, he has stopped them coming home to Biloela. I’m terrified for what could happen when those visas run out in 48 days.

I’ve seen the fear in Priya and Nades’ eyes when they speak about the dangers they escaped before finding peace and safety in Biloela.

I know that as parents, their greatest fear is for the safety of their two beautiful, QLD-born daughters.

A single signature from Minister Hawke would bring Priya, Nades, Kopi and Tharni safely back to Biloela, where they are welcome, wanted and needed.

Please give your MP a ring today and ask them to speak up publicly for our Biloela family now, while there is still time.

With hope,

Angela

*|FNAME|*, most Courier-Mail readers support our Biloela family!

12 August 2021

Hi << Test First Name >>,

This morning, the High Court declined to hear an appeal by our Biloela family. If you missed my earlier e-mail explaining what this means, you can read it here.

Please - can you tap through to both the news stories on the Courier-Mail Facebook page and News.com.au Facebook page leave a comment showing your love and support for Tharni and her family?

When commenting on social media, it is so important to reply to and 'like' other positive comments, which helps bring them to the top. Please don't ever reply to hateful or misinformed comments, even to correct them - it exposes more people to misinformation, which is what the trolls want.

We know from earlier polls that most News.com.au and Courier-Mail readers want the Minister to use his power to bring Priya, Nades and the girls home to Biloela. But social media trolls are always trying to sway public opinion the other way.

Here are some other tips to make sure your social media comments make a positive difference for Priya, Nades, Tharni and Kopi:

  • DO reply in support of other positive comments

  • DO ‘love' or 'like' as many other positive comments as you can

  • DO leave a new, positive comment of your own

  • DON'T reply to negative or misinformed comments

  • DON'T participate in name-calling or abuse of anyone, including politicians

  • DON'T use hashtags (like #hometobilo) when commenting on news pages

Please tap through to both the News.com.au Facebook page and Courier-Mail Facebook page to have your say now.

As always, thank you for everything you are doing for Priya, Nades, Kopika and Tharnicaa.

With hope,

Angela

Gladstone #HometoBilo sausage sizzle on Sunday

16 August 2021

Hi << Test First Name >>,

Ever since Priya, Nades and the girls were taken from their Biloela home three and a half years ago, people in the Gladstone area have played a big part in our fight to bring this beautiful family safely home to Biloela.

This Sunday at 2.30pm you are invited to come along for a sausage sizzle in Gladstone, to hear the latest from the #HometoBilo campaign and learn more about Priya, Nades, Kopi and Tharni's journey.

Yes, I can come

More than half a million people have signed our petition to bring them home to Biloela and online polls tell us that the majority of Australians agree.

In June, six government MPs publicly joined the call to get this family off Christmas Island and bring them home to Biloela.

The people of Gladstone and surrounds played a huge part in making sure our local MP Ken O'Dowd was among them. Thank you.

Under Australian law, Minister Alex Hawke could bring Priya, Nades, Kopi and Tharni home to Biloela with the stroke of a pen today, if he thinks it is in the public interest. That power is beyond the reach of any court.

Instead, by keeping four-year-old Tharni in “community detention” in Perth, Minister Hawke is stopping her whole family getting home to the safety of Biloela.

It means that when Priya, Nades and Kopi's temporary visas run out in 37 days, this much-loved family could be put back in detention - or even forced from Australia to danger.

Tap here to let me know you'll come and join other locals at ARTMatters, 3 Pitt Street Gladstone this Sunday 22 August at 2.30pm, to hear the latest and learn how you can help get Priya, Nades and the girls home to Bilo.

It would be fantastic if you can help spread the word by tapping ‘Share’ or ‘Invite’ on the Facebook event to invite like-minded local friends, too.

Thank you for everything you are doing to help bring this family home to Bilo. I hope to see you on Sunday.

With hope,

Angela

*|FNAME|*, can you come on Sunday?

19 August 2021

Hi << Test First Name >>,

Your support played a big part in getting Priya, Nades and the girls off Christmas Island - but now the politicians are stopping this beautiful family from coming home to Biloela by withholding a visa from four year old Tharni.

Can you come along to our #HometoBilo sausage sizzle in Gladstone this Sunday 2.30pm? This will be a great chance to meet other like-minded locals and hear about the next step in our fight to bring Priya, Nades, Kopi and Tharni safely home to Biloela, where they are welcome, wanted and needed.

Biloela family in today's Good Weekend

21 August 2021

Hi << Test First Name >>,

Have you seen today's story about Biloela in the Good Weekend magazine?

Please - can you tap through to the story on the The Age Facebook page now and leave a comment showing your love and support for Tharni and her family?

We know from polling that most Australians want Minister Hawke to use his power to bring Priya, Nades and the girls home to Biloela. But trolls are always trying to sway public opinion the other way on social media.

When commenting on social media, it is so important to reply to and 'love' as many other positive comments as you can, which helps bring them to the top. Please don't ever reply to hateful or misinformed comments, even to correct them - it only exposes more people to the hatred and misinformation, which is what the trolls want.

Tonight: Hear our Biloela family's song

25 August 2021

Friends,

With everything going on in Australia and the world right now, the way that people have kept up the fight to bring Priya, Nades and their QLD born girls home to Biloela is truly heartening.

Tonight, can you join me online for the premiere of the most beautiful song, written and recorded especially for Priya, Nades, Kopi and Tharni by Perth musician and family friend, Joe Leach?

Yes, I'll join online

It’s called “To Sleep at Night”. Remember to tap 'Going' and please invite like-minded friends to join you!

Joe first met our Biloela family last year, when he took the opportunity to visit them while travelling to Christmas Island for a gig.

He told ABC radio after his visit:

“They were just so super-kind and lovely. The two little kids were playing together and they’d made a cake for me. And even with the really meagre conditions - they’ve got access to a very small kitchen and not very much in the way of ingredients - I will never forget the hospitality and the flavour of that beautiful cake that Nades made.”

After everything Priya, Nades and the girls have been through, it's shocking that Ministers Andrews and Hawke are stopping this beautiful family from coming home to Biloela by keeping four-year-old Tharni in "community detention" in Perth.

When the temporary visas granted to Priya, Nades and Kopi run out in 28 days, the politicians could put them back in detention - or even force them from Australia to danger.

It feels like we’re so close to getting this family #hometobilo, but there is still more to do and over the next four weeks, we’re going to need everyone who cares for this little family to make their voices heard like never before.

But tonight, please sit back, relax and show your support by joining in online at 8pm AEST (6pm WA, 7.30pm SA/NT) to hear Joe's beautiful song, which I hope you will want to share with like-minded friends.

Angela

PS If you don't use Facebook, you can see and hear "To Sleep At Night" on the Home to Bilo Youtube channel from 8pm AEST tonight.

Biloela family on The Project

26 August 2021

Friends, tonight the The Project aired Priya and Nades' first face-to-face interview.

In the three and a half years since they were taken from their Biloela home, this is the first opportunity they've had to tell their story in person, in their own words.

Please - can you tap through to leave a comment on The Project's Facebook page to give hope and encouragement to this beautiful family? You can watch the interview there too.

The best way to make a difference on social media is to reply to other positive comments, which helps bring them to the top. But please don't ever reply to hateful or misinformed comments, even to correct them - this just exposes more people to the hatred and misinformation.

It was only a short segment, but Priya's and Nades' strength and love for their girls shone through. Little Tharni was so proud to announce that she is "still four"!

I know it can't be easy for Priya and Nades to speak about their very real fears for their girls' future. They see your comments on social media and it's so important to keep showing them how much love and support Australians have for them.

Please tap through to the story on the The Project's Facebook page to show your support now.

Thank you for all you do for Priya, Nades, Kopika and Tharnicaa.

With hope,

Angela

PS If you want to know when other stories about Priya, Nades and the girls are published on social media, you are very welcome to join the Home to Bilo Fact Check group.

*|MERGE1|*, your MP is on our Biloela family's side!

15 September 2021

Hi << Test First Name >>,

I have some good news. People who called the office of your local MP, << Test mp_name >> recently have been told that << Test mp_title_name >> agrees that Priya, Nades and the girls must be allowed to come home to Bilo.

But in one week, Ministers Alex Hawke and Karen Andrews could force Priya, Nades and the girls from Australia to danger.

As someone living in the electorate of << Test lower_house_electorate >>, your voice is more powerful than ever - can you join with others in your local area for next Tuesday’s online “calling party”?

Yes, I'll be there

Today it’s exactly three months since we got Priya, Nades and the girls off Christmas Island. Our Biloela family were reunited on the mainland after six government MPs broke ranks to speak up publicly for Priya, Nades, Kopi and Tharni.

This only happened because people living in those six electorates took action when it was needed.

Now, I urgently need your help to show << Test mp_name >> that people in << Test lower_house_electorate >> want their local MP to speak up publicly to get this family safely home to Biloela.

If I’ve learned one thing in all the years we’ve been fighting to bring this family #hometobilo, it’s that when concerned voters in their local area start making respectful phone calls, politicians sit up and take notice.

But I know how hard it can be for some of us to pick up the phone.

That’s why I’m inviting you to RSVP for next Tuesday’s online “calling party” to make a difference together.

On Tuesday, we’ll update you with latest in our campaign to bring Priya, Nades and the girls safely #hometobilo and share some tips for getting your message across clearly and powerfully. After we’ve made our phone calls, we’ll come together again to debrief and celebrate.

I hope you can join us on Tuesday - RSVP here and I’ll e-mail you the Zoom link beforehand.

With hope,

Angela

*|MERGE1|*, our Biloela family are on Australian Story

20 September 2021

Hi << Test First Name >>

Tonight at 8pm, the ABC's Australian Story will tell Priya, Nades, Kopika and Tharnicaa's story. I hope you can tune in for this important episode.

Right now, can you please do something quick to show your support for Priya, Nades and the girls now by tapping through and leaving a comment on this story on the Australian Story Facebook page?

The best way to show your support on social media is by replying to other positive comments, which helps bring them to the top. Please don't ever reply to hateful or misinformed comments, even to correct them - this just exposes more people to the hatred and misinformation.

Priya and Nades see your comments on social media and showing your support in this way helps them see all the love and support Australians have for their beautiful family.

Here are some other tips to make sure your social media comments make a positive difference for Priya, Nades, Tharni and Kopi:

  • DO reply in support of other positive comments

  • DO ‘love' or 'like' as many other positive comments as you can

  • DO leave a new, positive comment of your own

Our Biloela family are so brave, *|FNAME|* - now it's our turn

21 September 2021

Hi << Test First Name >>,

Last night, hundreds of thousands of Australians heard Priya and Nades tell their family's story, in their own words. If you missed yesterday's episode of Australian Story, you can watch it in full below.

I can only imagine the courage it took for Priya and Nades to speak about their fears for their beautiful daughters if Scott Morrison's Ministers force their family from Australia to danger.

Today, we all need to call on that same courage and tell our elected representatives that they must speak up to bring this Queensland family safely home to Biloela.

Please, can you give the office of your MP, << Test mp_name >> a call now on << Test mp_phone_electorate >>?

Yes, I can ring << Test mp_title_name >>

Three months ago, a national outcry got our Biloela family off Christmas Island after detention guards stopped four-year-old Tharni from getting to hospital for nine days.

Priya, Nades, Kopi and Tharni were only re-united on the mainland after six government MPs broke ranks to join the call to bring this family home to Bilo.

If not for all of the voters who picked up the phone to respectfully make their feelings known to their MPs, Priya, Nades and the girls could have been forced from Australia to danger by now.

We know there are more government MPs who agree that Minister Hawke must use his power to bring Priya, Nades and the girls home to Biloela - but these MPs won't speak up publicly unless they hear directly from more people in their local area.

Please, can you please make a quick call << Test mp_title_name >>'s team on << Test mp_phone_electorate >> now?

You can find tips on what to say and let me know how your call went by tapping through to our action page - this helps us keep track of what different MPs are telling people in their local area.

You can catch up on last night's episode of Australian Story at the link above. As you take action by calling << Test mp_title_name >>, please keep Nades' beautiful words of comfort for Tharni and Kopi in your heart:

They share their thoughts with us in a lullaby:

"Dad, why are we like this? Why are we here?"

I say: "It's only for a short time. We'll go back to Biloela, just as you dream."

My life is there. My spirit is in Biloela!

With hope,

Angela

Biloela family breaking news

23 September 2021

Hi << Test First Name >>,

If you've received my e-mail through change.org you might have heard the big news already. Today, Minister Alex Hawke granted 12 month visas to Priya, Nades and Kopi but left four-year-old Tharni in community detention, stopping her family getting home to Bilo.

We know from polling that most Australians want to see this family come safely home to Biloela - but hate groups and trolls are always trying to sway public opinion the other way on social media.

Can you please show your support by tapping here to leave a positive comment of hope and love for Priya, Nades and the girls on the 7 News Australia Facebook page?

On social media, it's so important to reply to other positive comments, which helps bring them to the top. Please don't ever reply to misinformed or hateful comments, even to correct them - replying makes these comments more prominent and exposes more people to the hatred.

Here are some other tips to help your social media comments make a positive difference for Priya, Nades, Tharni and Kopi:

  • DO reply in support of other positive comments

  • DO ‘love' or 'like' as many other positive comments as you can

  • DO leave a new, positive comment of your own

  • DON'T reply to negative or misinformed comments

  • DON'T participate in name-calling or abuse of anyone, including politicians

  • DON'T use hashtags (like #hometobilo) when commenting on news pages

Please take a moment to tap through to the 7 News Australia page to show your support now.

Thank you for everything.

With hope,

Angela

🎄Christmas in Biloela?

9 December 2021

Hi << Test First Name >>,

With Christmas fast approaching, I wanted to say a special “thank you” to Priya, Nades, Kopi and Tharni’s most dedicated supporters for everything you’ve done this year.

In June, we got Priya, Nades and their QLD-born girls off Christmas Island. In September, we stopped Scott Morrison’s Ministers forcing this beautiful family from Australia to danger - for now.

But by keeping four-year-old Tharni in “community detention”, Mr Morrison’s Ministers are STILL stopping this family coming safely home to Biloela.

Can you please help Priya, Nades and the girls get safely #HometoBilo for Christmas, by posting a handwritten card to your local MP, << Test mp_name >>?

Please post your card to << Test mp_title_name >>’s official postal address:

The Hon << Test mp_name >> MP

Member for << Test lower_house_electorate >>

<< Test mp_postal_address >>

In your card, please tell << Test mp_title_name >> why YOU believe Priya, Nades, Kopi and Tharni must be allowed to come #HometoBilo for Christmas, in your own respectful words.

To ensure your MP treats your message as genuine correspondence from a constituent, it is very important to include your full name and return address on the envelope.

Before you post your card, please upload a photo of your message to << Test mp_title_name >> that we can share with Priya and Nades (and publicly on social media). Please note that the photo you upload will be visible to everyone clicking on this link.

Our battle to bring Priya, Nades and the girls Home to Biloela has been a long one. Some people are already saying that with an election coming, all we have to do is wait.

But as we learned in 2019, there are no crystal balls when it comes to elections. We simply can’t afford to gamble this precious family’s safety on an election result that no-one can predict.

When the visas granted to Tharni’s mum, dad and sister run out next year, there is a very real danger that Mr Morrison’s Ministers could force this beautiful family from Australia to a war-torn country Kopi and Tharni have never seen, where Tamil people suffer horrific abuse.

The truth is that as ordinary citizens, our power to influence our local MPs reaches a peak in the weeks and months before an election is called - not afterwards.

That’s why this Christmas, I am asking our Biloela family’s most dedicated supporters to show they haven’t forgotten Priya, Nades, Kopi and Tharni, through the simple action of posting your local MP a handwritten card.

For everything you are doing to bring this family safely #HometoBilo - thank you.

With hope,

Angela

PS So many kind people are asking about sending Christmas presents to Tharni and Kopi. Your generosity last December was overwhelming - but there are only so many toys two little girls can use! This Christmas, it would be so lovely if everyone who cares for this family chose a local children's charity and made a donation in honour of our little "Biloela cockatoos". You might like to mention your donation in the card you send to << Test mp_title_name >>!

*|FNAME|*, our Biloela family had two special visitors!

9 December 2021

Hi << Test First Name >>,

If you are one of the many kind people around Australia who have already sent a Christmas Card calling on their local MP to help bring Priya, Nades and the girls #HometoBilo for Christmas - thank you so much!

Last week, Kopi and Tharni had a special visit from sisters Cassidy and Lacey-Jae, who had travelled all the way from Central QLD to Perth.

Priya and Nades told Cassidy and Lacey-Jae the story of their marriage and the safe life and community they created in Biloela.

Lacey-Jae is a rodeo rider and the girls were excited to hear all about her horses back home in Biloela!

When Priya, Nades, Kopi and Tharni were taken from their Biloela home, they were robbed of the chance to make new friendships with locals like Cassidy and Lacey-Jae.

Lacey-Jae has been advocating for this family for almost four years now. I'm so glad that she and Cassidy had this opportunity to make up for lost time and get to know Priya, Nades and the girls in person.

I'm sure they're returning to QLD with renewed determined to bring this family #HometoBilo, where they are welcome, wanted and needed.

Lacey-Jae writes:

"To bear witness to the brightness of these little girls marred by this torturous system makes me realise how strong the human spirit is.

"I acknowledge how lucky I was to meet this family as a Queenslander, when now the borders to WA are restricted again making it even more difficult for loved ones and advocates to see this precious family.

"I am honoured to have been welcomed by them during their traumatic experience, to feel their love and strength."

For the love and strength you share with Priya, Nades and the girls through simple actions - like sending a card to your local MP, << Test mp_title_name >> - thank you.

With hope,

Angela

*|FNAME|*, our Biloela family won in court again!

25 January 2022

Hi << Test First Name >>,

Yesterday, the Federal Circuit Court found that Minister Alex Hawke’s June 2021 decision to stop Priya, Nades and Kopika from applying for further bridging visas was unfair.

But with Scott Morrison’s Ministers keeping four year old Tharni in “community detention”, her family STILL can’t come home to Biloela.

The bridging visas Mr Hawke gave to Tharni’s mum, dad and sister mean they are free to travel home to QLD - but because Tharni can’t leave WA, her whole family is trapped 3,500 from their Biloela home.

Please, can you call your elected representative, << Test mp_name >> MP's team now on << Test mp_phone_electorate >>?

Please let them know, respectfully, that you cannot vote for a member of any government which is stopping this family coming safely #HometoBilo.

Opposition leader Anthony Albanese and Shadow Immigration Minister Kristina have repeatedly asked Scott Morrison’s Ministers to allow Priya, Nades and the girls to home to Biloela.

But as Ms Keneally said yesterday: “However, this need not wait for an election - Immigration Minister Alex Hawke can bring this sorry saga to an end today and allow the family to come home to Biloela.”

When it comes to elections, no-one has a crystal ball. That’s why I’m asking you to pick up the phone to help get this family safely home to Bilo now, while there’s time.

Yes, I can make a phone call

Priya is terrified that when the visas expire after the election, Mr Morrison will give his Ministers the go ahead to force her family from Australia to danger, just as they tried to do after the 2019 election.

Last year, South-East Asian politics expert Professor Damien Kingsbury said that in Sri Lanka, Priya and Nades would be arrested and forced into “re-education” camps, at best. He said that Kopi and Tharni would be put into state-run orphanages.

“At worst, and more likely to see, is that the parents will not just face arrest and 're-education', but likely torture and potentially 'disappearance'”, Professor Kingsbury said.

Just like in 2019, lots of people are making predictions about how the election will turn out. But the stakes are far too high for any of us to sit back and gamble with this family’s future.

Please, can you give << Test mp_title_name >>s team a call on << Test mp_phone_electorate >> now? Tap here for tips on what to say and to let me know how your call went.

With hope,

Angela

PS If you've sent a card or e-mail to << Test mp_title_name >> recently - thank you. It is so important to follow up with a polite phone call now. After the election, it could be too late.

*|FNAME|*, Priya has a message to share with you

4 February 2022

Hi << Test First Name >>,

In a month and a day, exactly four years will have passed since guards snatched Priya and her family from their Biloela home at dawn.

But for Priya, Nades and other Tamil people around the world, today - the 4th of February - is also a black day.

74 years ago today, Sri Lanka was granted independence from Great Britain.

As Priya explains in the message below, for her, it's the anniversary of “one oppressor handing power to another”.

Can you show your support for the Tamil community by joining Saturday’s online rally?

Priya says:

“We have lost hundreds of thousands of lives as a result of this day. Our cultural and religious identities are systematically being destroyed … Our ancestors' lands are being forcibly taken and are occupied.

“After facing decades of discrimination and oppression at the hands of the Sri Lankan state, we have fled our homeland as refugees to various parts of the world."

Yes, I'll join the online rally

For Priya, Nades and other Tamil-speaking people from “the island”, today is a day of sadness. But I know that the day we bring this family home to Biloela will be a celebration like no other.

For everything you are doing to help bring Priya, Nades, Kopi and Tharni #hometobilo - thank you.

If you would like to show your support for the Tamil community and learn more about why the peace and safety they found in Biloela matter so much to Priya and Nades, please tap here to say you’ll join the Tamil Refugee Council’s online rally, tomorrow at 6pm (AEST).

With hope,

Angela

*|FNAME|*, we're coming together on Saturday

3 March 2022

Hi << Test First Name >>,

I hope that you and loved ones in QLD and NSW are doing OK as these terrible floods continue. It really is in times like these that we rely on friends and neighbours to help us all pull through together.

5th March 2018 was a dark day for Priya, Nades and their QLD-born girls. It was the day the guards took them from their Biloela home.

But in the days that followed, friends and neighbours planted a seed of hope by coming together with a simple message: Bring them #HometoBilo.

Can you help us turn 5th March into a celebration of the way people of all beliefs and backgrounds have come together to stick up for this beautiful family, by joining our 30 minute “#HometoBilo in 2022” event online this Saturday?

RSVP HERE

Four years ago to the day on Saturday, as the sun rose over Biloela, Nades was getting ready for work. Priya was warming a bottle for the baby. Two year old Kopi and nine month old Tharni were asleep in their beds.

But then, there was an unexpected knock on the door. A neighbour heard Priya scream as guards swarmed the house. They gave the family ten minutes to pack their things. The girls were woken and separated from their mum.

And then they were gone.

This Saturday it will be four years since our long battle to bring this family safely #HometoBilo began. If you can, please show your support by tapping or clicking here to RSVP for our online event.

On a typical day in Biloela, Nades would kiss his beloved wife goodbye as he left for his job at the local meatworks. Priya would spend the day with the girls, greeting and waving to friends and neighbours on her daily walk around the town or down at the shops.

When we found out that guards had snatched this much-loved family from Biloela, we were shocked. We didn’t know what to do. But then, someone drew a picture of a cockatoo with a pink love heart on the wing. We called a community meeting. And we started a petition.

Four years later, almost 600,000 Australians have signed our petition - but Scott Morrison’s Ministers are still stopping this family coming #HometoBilo by keeping four year old Tharni in “community detention”.

<< Test First Name >>, that’s why I am hoping you can show your support by joining with local family and friends on Saturday for our 30 minute online event.

RSVP HERE

If you have already registered - thank you. Please help spread the word to like-minded friends and family by tapping through to the event on our Facebook page, tapping “Share” and inviting others to join. See you online on Saturday!

With hope,

Angela

Hi << Test First Name >>,

Thank you so much for RSVPing to join Priya and friends from Biloela online today (Saturday). I hope that you and family and friends in NSW and QLD are keeping safe.

It gives me strength

6 March 2022

Hi << Test First Name >>,

"When I think about all the love from my community and around Australia it gives me strength and helps me stop the tears."

I was deeply moved to hear Priya's message to everyone who joined us from across the country for last night's on-line event, four years to the day since Priya, Nades, Kopi and Tharni were taken Biloela home.

Thank you for being there, if you were able to participate. By coming together yesterday, we began reclaiming 5th March as a day to show how we as community can "stick up for our mates".

But the truth is that unless we get this beautiful family safely #HometoBilo before the election, Priya, Nades and their QLD-born girls will be in terrible danger. We must keep speaking up.

<< Test First Name >>, can you open up a new e-mail now and write directly to your local MP << Test mp_name >> at << Test mp_email >> in your own words? Please be sure to include your full name and address.

Without the many thousands of phone calls, letters, cards and e-mails from people like you over the last four years - Priya, Nades, Kopi and Tharni would still be trapped in a Christmas Island detention centre.

Unfortunately, I have heard recently that some politicians' staff are now sending e-mails sent via the form on our action page straight to the spam folder - unread.

That is why today, I am asking you to open up a new e-mail and send a message directly to your local MP << Test mp_name >> at << Test mp_email >> now - in your own, heartfelt words.

To ensure your e-mail is treated as genuine correspondence from a constituent, please be sure to include your full name and address.

If you've moved recently or live outside << Test mp_title_name >>'s electorate of << Test lower_house_electorate >>, you can use your postcode to check which politician to email in seconds by clicking here.

Last night's "virtual hug" for Kopi and Tharni

Right now, Scott Morrison's Ministers are stopping this beautiful family coming home to Biloela by withholding the same temporary visa they granted to Priya, Nades and Kopi (a "bridging visa") from four year old Tharni. This is the only thing stopping her family from leaving WA and coming safely home to Bilo.

It means Priya and Nades are living with the terrifying fear that Mr Morrison's Ministers will force their gorgeous, QLD-born girls from Australia to a country they have never known, where Tamil people face horrific abuse and torture - just as they tried to do after the 2019 election.

As we all saw in 2019, when it comes to elections no-one has a crystal ball. That's why we must get this family safely #HometoBilo now, before the election.

You don't need to be an expert to have your say. But if you would like to check the facts, our #HometoBilo Fact Sheet has plenty of information.

I would be so grateful if you could please send your e-mail to << Test mp_title_name >> at << Test mp_email >> now (including your full name and address).

With hope,

Angela

Our Biloela family can't go to NZ

25 March 2022

Hi << Test First Name >>,

The Morrison government is finally allowing 450 people who came in search of safety to settle in New Zealand.

But Priya and Nades are still living with the real and terrifying fear that Mr Morrison's Ministers will force their two QLD-born girls from Australia to danger after the election.

<< Test First Name >>, can you call your local MP << Test mp_name >>'s team on << Test mp_phone_electorate >>? Please tell them that Priya, Nades, Kopi and Tharni must be allowed to come safely home to Biloela now.

Yes, I can call my MP

In June 2021, when Minister Karen Andrews was asked about her power to bring them home to Biloela, she said she was "investigating a range of resettlement options".

When asked about the family on ABC Radio, Minister Marise Payne said "the United States is the first of those but New Zealand is also an option".

The next day, Minister Andrews denied she was investigating resettlement options for our Biloela family - making it clear they are excluded from the "New Zealand deal".

Please call << Test mp_title_name >>'s team on << Test mp_phone_electorate >> and tell them this family must be allowed to come #HometoBilo now.

Anthony Albanese and Kristina Keneally have repeatedly pledged to bring Priya, Nades and the girls home to Biloela. A growing number of independent candidates are speaking out too.

With an election coming, some people are saying we can stop speaking up for this family. But as we learned in 2019, there’s no crystal ball when it comes to elections.

Scott Morrison’s Ministers could force this beautiful family to a war-torn country that Kopi and Tharni have never known, where Tamil people face horrific abuse and torture.

<< Test First Name >>, that’s why I am asking you to use your voice today, while there’s time. I would be so grateful if you could call << Test mp_title_name >>'s team on << Test mp_phone_electorate >> now.

You can tap through to our action page for calling tips and to let me know how it went.

With hope,

Angela

PS If you have e-mailed << Test mp_title_name >> recently - thank you. Whether or not you have received a reply, a quick, respectful phone call is one of the most powerful actions you can take right now to help get Priya, Nades, Kopi and Tharni safely home to Biloela.

Happy Tamil New Year, *|FNAME|*! 🥳

14 April 2022

Hi << Test First Name >>,

On behalf of Priya, Nades, Kopi and Tharni - Happy Tamil New Year (Puthandu)!

Puthandu is a special day for Tamil families all around the world. This year, it has fallen one day before Good Friday - another very auspicious day.

I cannot think of a better day for Immigration Minister Alex Hawke to pick up his pen and grant four year old Tharni the same visa as her Mum, Dad and big sister, to allow her whole family to come safely home to Biloela for Easter.

<< Test First Name >>, can you please give your local MP << Test mp_name >> a quick call on << Test mp_phone_electorate >> now?

Tell them you want Minister Hawke to grant Tharni from Biloela a bridging visa and insist that << Test mp_title_name >> contact Minister Hawke on your behalf, as a constituent.

If you are seeing this e-mail after office hours or over Easter, please leave a polite voice message for << Test mp_title_name >> with your full name, suburb and phone number.

Yes, I can call << Test mp_title_name >>

I have no doubt that last June, when Tharni got so sick she had to be medically evacuated from a Christmas Island detention centre, it was only thanks to phone calls people like you made to their local MPs that Priya, Nades, Kopi and Tharni were reunited on the mainland.

But now, Scott Morrison’s Ministers are stopping this beautiful family from coming safely home to Biloela.

Priya is terrified that Mr Morrison’s Ministers are waiting until after the election to force her family from Australia to war-torn Sri Lanka, where Tamil people have faced decades of horrific abuse and torture - just as they tried to do after Mr Morrison’s surprise re-election in 2019.

No-one can predict the outcome of an election, and we don’t have much time - please, can you give << Test mp_title_name >> a call on << Test mp_phone_electorate >> now?

Unfortunately, I’ve heard that some MPs are spreading misinformation and making excuses, including “it’s before the courts” and “we’re in caretaker mode”.

The simple truth is that the Minister’s power to intervene in immigration matters is beyond the reach of any court, and that the granting of visas is an everyday administrative function that continues throughout the caretaker period.

Please - when you call << Test mp_title_name >>'s office on << Test mp_phone_electorate >>, remember to let them know that the safety of our beautiful Biloela family will be at the top of your mind when you come to cast your vote.

With hope,

Angela

PS << Test First Name >>, thank you for everything you are doing to help me get Priya, Nades, Kopi and Tharni safely home to Biloela, where they are welcome, wanted and needed. If you have called << Test mp_title_name >> before, can you ask a local, like-minded friend to join you in making their own call and compare notes afterwards? You don’t need to be an expert, but you can find tips and facts and let me know how the call went by tapping through to our action page.

*|FNAME|*, our Biloela family were on 7.30!

20 April 2022

Hi << Test First Name >>,

Last night, the ABC's 7.30 program aired a story about our Biloela family.

Priya explained how Scott Morrison's Ministers are preventing her family from coming safely home to Biloela, by granting bridging visas to three members of her family - but keeping four year old Tharni in "community detention".

Priya told the interviewer she is "fearful" for what could happen when the visas expire.

But I know her greatest fear is that Mr Morrison's Ministers are waiting until after the election to force her two QLD-born girls from Australian to danger, just as they attempted to do after the election three years ago.

With the election almost upon us, can you please take a moment today, to send an e-mail to a << Test 2022_candidate_first_name >> << Test 2022_candidate_last_name >> at << Test 2022_candidate_last_email >>?

I know that you have sent e-mails to politicians before. But << Test 2022_candidate_title_name >> has now been announced as the << Test 2022_candidate_party >> candidate in your electorate of << Test lower_house_electorate >>.

It's the perfect time to let << Test 2022_candidate_title_name >> know, respectfully, that the future safety of our Biloela family will be at the top of your mind when you cast your vote on 21 May.

The secret ballot is a cornerstone of our democracy. It means you're not obliged to tell anyone how you intend to vote - even candidates like << Test 2022_candidate_title_name >>.

And it means that today, the most powerful thing you can do to help bring Priya, Nades, Kopi and Tharni safely home to Bilo is to simply let << Test 2022_candidate_title_name >> know that this family's treatment will be a decisive influence when you cast your vote.

The most effective e-mails are the ones that you write in your own thoughtful words - and you don't need to be an expert to have your say. But if you would like to check the facts, or address any misinformation in << Test 2022_candidate_title_name >>'s reply, you can check the facts here on the Home to Bilo website.

As always, thank you for everything you are doing to help bring Priya, Nades, Kopi and Tharni safely home to Biloela, while there's still time. Please do send your e-mail to << Test 2022_candidate_title_name >> at << Test 2022_candidate_last_email >> today.

With hope,

Angela

PS If you missed last night's 7.30 story, you can watch it here.

*|FNAME|*, Priya from Biloela has been interviewed in the Sydney Morning Herald!

24 April 2022

Hi << Test First Name >>,

Sydney Morning Herald columnist Peter Fitzsimons has published an exclusive interview with Priya this morning.

Can you please show your support by tapping here to leave a positive comment of hope and love for Priya, Nades and the girls on the the Sydney Morning Herald Facebook page?

On social media, it's so important to reply to other positive comments, which helps bring them to the top. Please don't ever reply to hateful or misinformed comments, even to correct them - replying makes these comments more prominent and exposes more people to the hatred.

Please take a moment to tap through to the Sydney Morning Herald page to show your support now.

Thank you for everything.

With hope,

Angela

PS I know many of us who care for Priya and her family don't use Facebook. If you have a Twitter account, please tap through to this tweet to leave a message of love and support for Priya, Nades and the girls there - and remember to retweet!

*|FNAME|*, did you hear what this candidate said about our Biloela family?

24 April 2022

Hi << Test First Name >>,

I have some news for you. The e-mails people are sending to the coalition candidate for the electorate of Eden-Monaro (which surrounds the ACT) are starting to get results for our Biloela family.

Yesterday, the coalition candidate for Eden-Monaro, Dr Jerry Nockles, told The Canberra Times he stands by his June 2021 comments that Kopika and Tharnicaa “must be settled in Australia”.

But Dr Nockles “was a step away from joining the growing number of MPs and candidates on all sides of politics arguing for the family's return” to Biloela, The Canberra Times reported.

This morning, can you please send a short letter to the editor of The Canberra Times in response to Mr Knockles comments?

Please remind Canberra Times readers, respectfully and in your own words, that Kopi and Tharni’s safety can’t be assured unless their whole family are permitted to come home to Biloela, where they are welcome, wanted and needed.

Dr Nockles’ comments show that our message is getting through. But his refusal to clearly state that Kopi and Tharni must be allowed to come safely home to Biloela with their loving mum and dad is absurd.

In a Sydney Morning Herald article in June last year, before he was picked to stand as a Liberal candidate, Dr Nockles said “I believe that two small children must be settled in Australia today … Kopika and Tharnicaa Murugappan are two Australian-born children … they are first and foremost children – and they have a legal and moral right to our protection.”

Now Dr Nockles is seeking votes in the hope of joining a government which kept Kopika and Tharnicaa locked up in detention for three and a half years.

To this day, Scott Morrison’s Ministers are cruelly denying four year old Tharni the same bridging visa as her mum, dad and sister. By holding Tharni in “community detention” in WA, they are stopping her whole family from coming safely #HometoBilo.

Priya is terrified that Mr Morrison is planning to force her family from Australia to danger after the election, just as he tried to do in 2019 - and so am I.

I hope you can help by sending a short letter to the editor in your own words today. You don’t need to be an expert to have your say, but you can find the facts on our Biloela family here and read yesterday's article here.

For everything you are doing to help bring Priya, Nades, Kopi and Tharni safely #HometoBilo - thank you.

With hope,

Angela

*|FNAME|*, you're invited! Biloela girl Kopika turns 7

8 May 2022

Hi << Test First Name >>,

Four years after Priya, Nades, Kopi and Tharni were taken from their Biloela home, the way Australians vote could finally bring them home to Biloela within weeks.

But with Kopika turning seven this Thursday, it looks like she’ll be spending another birthday thousands of kilometres from her Biloela home.

Can you help us mark Kopika’s special day by joining this Thursday’s online event?

RSVP to join online

From Bob Katter to the Australian Greens, the way our Biloela family’s story brings politicians of different beliefs and backgrounds together in support never ceases to amaze.

Now, a growing number of independent candidates, including Allegra Spender (Wentworth), Dr Monique Ryan (Kooyong), Zoe Daniel (Goldstein), Kylea Tink (North Sydney) and Dr Sarah Russell (Flinders) have promised to do everything they can to bring Priya, Nades, Kopi and Tharni safely home to Biloela, if elected.

I’m delighted that Monique Ryan, Kylea Tink, Jane Caro (Reason candidate for NSW Senate), Sonya Semmens (Greens candidate for Higgins) have found time to join our online celebration of Kopika’s birthday - can you join us online too?

Last Thursday, Anthony Albanese also re-stated his clear commitment to bringing Priya, Nades, Kopika and Tharnicaa home to Biloela.

When a Q+A audience member asked if he would bring them home to Biloela if elected Prime Minister, Mr Albanese said:

“The answer to your question is 'yes' ... the community want them back and they should return home to Biloela."

I hope you can join us online this Thursday, to celebrate Kopika’s birthday and hear from some of the candidates promising to do all they can to bring her family safely #HometoBilo.

On Friday, my friend Bronwyn and I were honoured to speak at the opening of The Long Way Home exhibition in Biloela.

I was so proud to see Kopika and Tharnicaa’s colourful, imaginative paintings hanging alongside works by local and national artists.

It’s hard to comprehend that Priya, Nades, Kopi and Tharni could actually be safe back home in Biloela before the exhibition closes on June 17th - but it all depends on how Australians vote.

This Thursday 12 May, on Kopika’s 7th birthday, please help me show much love we have for our Biloela family by joining this special online event.

With hope,

Angela

One more sleep, *|FNAME|*! 🎂

11 May 2022

Hi << Test First Name >>,

There’s only one more sleep until Kopika’s 7th birthday - her fifth since guards snatched her family from their Biloela home. She was only two.

If you’ve already tapped ‘Going’ to show you’ll be there for tomorrow’s online event at 5.30pm (5pm SA/NT, 3.30pm WA), thank you so much. It will mean so much to Priya and Nades to see a big show of support for their family on Kopika’s birthday.

There’s still time to RSVP to our live-streamed event with some of the candidates who’ve promised to do all they can to bring Priya, Nades, Kopi and Tharni safely home to Biloela if elected, including independent candidate for Kooyong, Dr Monique Ryan.

RSVP to join online

It’s shocking to think that Kopika was just a tiny two year old on the day the guards came for her family back in 2018.

You can see just how little she was in this photo, taken in Biloela by her adoring mum and dad a few weeks earlier.

It says something about the incredible power of Priya and Nades’ love for their precious girls that Kopika is growing into such a confident, bright and imaginative young lady.

Over the last four years, I’ve had the privilege of spending many, many hours with Kopika over countless video calls and multiple visits to detention centres in Melbourne and on Christmas Island, as well the WA “community detention” house where Scott Morrison’s Ministers have ordered her little sister Tharni to stay.

But with the election almost upon us, the future safety of Kopika’s family hangs in the balance. Please RSVP now to join our online event tomorrow, to make sure candidates can see how much love we all have for our Biloela family on Kopika’s special day.

RSVP to join online

Thank you to everyone who has let me know they would love to join tomorrow’s online event via another platform. I know that many of you don’t use Facebook, so I wanted to invite you to subscribe to the #HometoBilo Youtube channel. We’ll share a recording of the event there as soon as we can.

As always, thank you so much for everything you are doing to help bring Priya, Nades, Kopi and Tharni safely home to Biloela.

With hope,

Angela

Let's get this family #HometoBilo, *|FNAME|*🗳

21 May 2022

Hi << Test First Name >>,

Our votes could be our last chance to bring this beautiful family safely home to Biloela.

In the time we have left, can you please help this important message to circulate to as many people as possible - even if you have already voted?

Spread the word on Facebook

Anthony Albanese has made it crystal clear he will bring Priya, Nades, Kopi and Tharni home to Biloela, where they are welcome, wanted and needed.

But it was sickening to hear Scott Morrison attacking our Biloela family in the media yesterday.

I'm terrified Mr Morrison will force Priya, Nades, Kopi and Tharni from Australia to danger after the election.

If the election result is unclear, our beautiful family's safety could depend on independents like Dr Monique Ryan (Kooyong), Zoe Daniel (Goldstein), and Dr Sarah Russell (Flinders), who have promised to do everything they can to bring them safely #HometoBilo if elected.

In the time we have left, please help this message to circulate to as many people as possible. Share this with your family. Pass it on to friends in a message. Post it in a group.

And please leave a comment in support for Priya, Nades and their QLD-born girls on the Home To Bilo Facebook page, where they can see it.

With your support, we have kept Priya, Nades, Kopi and Tharni safe for 1,537 days.

Now, let's vote to bring them #HometoBilo.

With hope,

Angela

*|FNAME|*, they're coming #HometoBilo!

27 May 2022

Dear << Test First Name >>,

I wanted to let you know straight away.

The new government has formally announced that Priya, Nades, Kopika and Tharnicaa - the Nadesalingam family - are finally coming home to Bilo.

While we welcome the decision to issue the entire family with bridging visas, we know this family won't be safe until they have permanency in Australia.

But right now, we need to get this family back home to Biloela and back on their feet.

Can you chip in to help make up for some of the wages lost when politicians robbed Priya and Nades of the right to work during 1200 days of unjust detention?

Yes, I’ll help this family get back on their feet

Everything we’ve done to keep this family safe and get them #HometoBilo has been powered by the support of everyday Australians.

Without the incredible generosity of people like you, Priya and Nades could never have accessed the expert legal support that kept them safe time and time again, in the face of a government with almost unlimited access to taxpayers’ money. We could never have put dozens of billboards across Australia or placed full page ads in the newspapers.

I have no doubt that it was support like yours that helped us secure a commitment from Mr Albanese to bring this family home to Biloela.

The people of this incredible town have already stepped in to make sure the Priya, Nades, Kopi and Tharni have temporary accommodation when they get back home.

But after being detained and robbed of the right to work for 1200 days, we need to make sure they get every chance to recover and thrive as they return to life in Biloela.

When I told Priya that her family was finally coming home to Biloela, she said:

“My prayer is that this government will make a change to the lives of every single refugee who comes here. All refugees are survivors. They need hope.

“I had the support of Nades and we had the support of the people of Bilo. But many others don’t have that support. So I want to help,” she said.

That’s why Priya and Nades have asked that once we’ve achieved our goal of raising $148,000 to help replace the income they lost in detention, every extra dollar donated to this crowdfunder will be shared between local causes that are important to the Nadesalingam family and campaigns to win freedom and safety for others at risk of being forced from Australia to danger.

I know this family deserve so much more. $148,000 is nothing compared to the millions of dollars politicians wasted by locking this beautiful family away in detention for 1200 days.

But I also know that for Nades and Priya, freedom and independence are two sides of the same coin.

And I know that throughout this family’s long ordeal, the plight of others enduring similar injustice and danger has weighed heavily on Nades and Priya’s minds. There are so many other people and families, just like Priya, Nades, Kopi and Tharni, whose stories have not been heard.

I hope you can chip in to help this brave, beautiful family get back on their feet as they return to Biloela, and help Priya’s prayer for positive change for others to come true.

Yes, I can help

After four years, it still feels hard to believe Priya, Nades, Kopi and Tharni are finally coming home to Biloela.

Today's decision means there's still work to do to ensure this family have the true freedom and safety that will only come if they are granted permanent visas to stay in Australia.

But for now, let's acknowledge this important step forward and do all we can to help Priya, Nades, Kopi and Tharni get back on their feet in Biloela.

With hope,

Angela

*|FNAME|*, I can't thank you enough

6 June 2022

Dear << Test First Name >>,

I can’t thank you enough for donating to our crowdfunder to help Priya, Nades, Kopi and Tharni - the Nadesalingam family - get back on their feet when they arrive back home to Biloela.

Now that we’ve reached our goal of raising $148,000 towards the wages lost during 1200 days of detention, Priya and Nades have asked that any additional donations to this crowdfunder are shared between local causes and helping others at risk of being forced from Australia to danger.

Can you please help Priya and Nades make a difference for others by sharing our crowdfunder on social media?

I remember how Nades volunteered with the local Vinnies and how hard he worked at the local meatworks. I remember the stories of Priya bringing her curries up to the local hospital to say ‘thank you’ to the local doctors and nurses.

Compared to the millions of dollars wasted by the politicians who chose to lock Priya, Nades and the girls away in detention for 1200 days, the amount we’ve raised to help this family get back on their feet seems like such a small amount.

But I also know how important it is to Priya and Nades to keep making a difference, not only in their local community, but for people right around Australia still living with the fear that they could be forced to danger.

With donations closing just a few days, I would be so grateful if you could let friends and family know by sharing our crowdfunder today.

It’s still hard to believe that the virtual “group hugs” that have become a tradition over countless video calls with Priya, Nades and the girls will soon be replaced with real ones.

As busy as we’ve all been in preparing to welcome her family home, I keep thinking about what Priya said when I told her they were finally coming home to Biloela:

My prayer is that this government will make a change to the lives of every single refugee who comes here. All refugees are survivors. They need hope. I had the support of Nades and we had the support of the people of Bilo. But many others don’t have that support. So I want to help.

Thanks to your generosity, Priya and Nades now have a chance to help this prayer come true by making a difference for others, when they are ready.

In the last few days before they finally come #HometoBilo, I hope you can help Priya and Nades “pay it forward” by sharing this crowdfunder with friends and family.

I'm with Priya, Nades, Kopi and Tharni right now!

7 June 2022

Hi << Test First Name >>,

I'm in Perth with Priya, Nades, Kopi and Tharni to help with the final stages of their journey home to Biloela right now, so I'll be quick.

I just wanted to let you know that SBS News has shared a lovely story about the amazing generosity of everyone who has chipped in to help make up the wages lost to the Nadesalingam family when they were unjustly detained for 1200 days.

Can you please tap here to leave a comment on the SBS Facebook page to wish Priya, Nades, Kopi and Tharni well on their journey home to Biloela?

On social media, it's so important to reply to other positive comments, which helps bring them to the top. Please don't ever reply to misinformed or hateful comments, even to correct them - replying makes these comments more prominent and exposes more people to the hatred.

You might like to mention that at Priya and Nades' request, additional funds donated to this crowdfunder in excess of the goal will be shared between local causes that are important to the Nadesalingam family and campaigns to win freedom and safety for others at risk of being forced from Australia to danger.

I would be so grateful if you could tap through to the SBS Facebook page to show your love and support as Priya, Nades, Kopi and Tharni make their way home to Biloela.

Thank you again for your incredible generosity.

With hope,

Angela

Home to Bilo. Home for good.

9 November 2022

Hi << Test First Name >>,

With everything that’s been happening as Priya, Nades, Kopi and Tharni settle back into Biloela life, we’re long overdue to say a proper “thank you” to the Nadesalingam family’s most dedicated supporters.

Nades is back at the meatworks, working the evening shift so he can drop off and pick up Kopi and Tharni from school during the day.

Priya has enrolled in English classes at the local TAFE and plans to get her driver’s license. She dreams of selling her beautiful home-made childrens’ clothes at local markets.

And today, I’m writing to invite you to join Priya and friends on Zoom for a special on-line event, next Wednesday night (16th November).

RSVP HERE

I know how much it will mean to Priya to personally share what your support meant to her during her family’s long journey home to Biloela.

But I also know that this strong, resilient woman has so much more to say than “thank you” - and so do we.

In the days after Peter Dutton’s guards took Priya, Nades, Kopi and Tharni from our town, I remember telling the locals gathered in Lions Park that this was the start of something much bigger.

Even then, we were hearing from people across the country. We heard heart-breaking stories of friends and neighbours forced to danger, after being torn from the cities and towns where they’d made their homes.

Many were Tamil people who escaped tyranny, torture and genocide, only to have their need for protection denied under the unfair, divisive refugee system Scott Morrison created long before he became Prime Minister.

It’s shocking to realise that today - even after the change in government - thousands of men, women and families who’ve been part of our communities for a decade are still living with the fear that the officials running this cruel, unfair system could send guards to their homes and force them to danger.

I truly believe that if people of all beliefs and backgrounds join together, just as we did with Priya, Nades, Kopi and Tharni, we can change things for the better. That’s why I’m inviting you to join us online next Wednesday.

RSVP HERE

Just before the election, when her own family’s future was still uncertain, Priya said:

“There are lots of people kindly asking that this has to stop with us. I don't want any refugee people to go through this, so please keep your kind hearts and keep showing your love and support.”

On the day the Albanese government granted visas to allow her family to come safely home to Biloela, she said:

“All refugees are survivors. They need hope. I had the support of Nades and we had the support of the people of Bilo. But many others don’t have that support. So I want to help.”

Next Wednesday 16th November, let’s show Priya that this incredible, country-wide #HometoBilo community is ready to stand with the thousands of men, women and families who’ve lived as part of our communities for the last decade. Please join us.

With hope,

Angela

Our country-wide #HometoBilo community

17 November 2022

Hi << Test First Name >>,

I thought you might like to see the "group photo" below of people who joined last night's special online event with Priya, Vashini, Bronwyn and I.

If you were able to join us, thank you for helping to show that our country-wide #HometoBilo community is ready to stand with the men, women, children and families who have been living as part of our communities for a decade.

Today, can you please give your MP a ring? Let them know it's time to grant permanence and stability to the 31,000 people affected by Scott Morrison's unfair refugee process.

Find your MP’s phone number here

If we have to come to a new country in search of safety, the most serious decision a government official can make is whether or not the danger we escaped means we have the right to stay.

But back in 2014, when Scott Morrison was Immigration Minister, he changed our migration laws to take away many people’s rights to have these life-changing decisions checked by an independent tribunal in a fair and proper way.

As we heard last night, it was Mr Morrison's unfair system that denied Priya the right to have this life-changing decision fairly and properly checked

Without the action taken by hundreds of thousands of people like you, Priya, Nades, Kopi and Tharni would have been forced from Australia to danger.

Can you give your MP a quick call now? Please ask them to contact Minister Andrew Giles and Minister Clare O'Neil, who have the power to give permanence and stability to the 31,000 people affected by Mr Morrison's unfair system.

The good news is that the Albanese government has promised to create a new tribunal that can review refugee decisions fairly and properly.

But this will still leave thousands of people who’ve been part of our communities for the last decade living in fear that they could be forced from Australia to danger.

Find your MP’s phone number here

If you missed hearing from Priya, Vashini, Bronwyn and I during last night's Zoom meeting, you can still catch up YouTube. We've learned a lot about how Mr Morrison's unfair system is still denying fairness to thousands of people who came in search of peace and safety - so please grab yourself a cuppa and settle in.

For everything you did to help bring Priya, Nades, Kopi and Tharni safely #HometoBilo - thank you.

With hope,

Angela
