Alongside other work, I've coordinated volunteer networks for Greenpeace, built nonviolence training capacity for social movements and won safety for people facing deportation to danger.

13 September 2009: The Monty Python-styled "Ministry of Energy, Resources and Silly Walks" perform at Hazelwood Power Station in Morwell during the 500 strong "Switch Off Hazelwood" protest. I co-facilitated nonviolence training sessions for participants and designed this piece of theatre in tribute to James. Hazelwood was finally decommissioned in 2017.
31 March 2010: Weekly newspaper The Melbourne Times publishes an open letter calling on Immigration Minister Chris Evans to intervene in the case of my friend and former housemate, who faced imminent deportation. I placed the ad and briefed Age journalist Andra Jackson after spending three years collecting a detailed case history, briefing a migration agent and building a quiet community campaign. When Jackson contacted the Department, they referred my friend's case to the Minister, who granted him permanent residence.
7 April 2016: Jasmine Pilbrow (right) leads a march to Ringwood Magistrates Court after peacefully halting the forced transfer of a Tamil man by refusing to take her seat on a Qantas flight. I wrote a change.org petition that forced Qantas to reverse no-fly bans against two business travellers who left the plane in protest at the man's treatment, organised court solidarity events for Jasmine and started a social media campaign to expose the airline's role in the deportation and forced transfer of people seeking asylum. 2 September 2016: Jasmine Pilbrow's supporters gather at Broadmeadows Magistrates Court before her second hearing. I coordinated the event, designed the departure board-style placards and co-wrote a crowdfunder that raised nearly three times the amount the court asked Jasmine to pay to Qantas, with the balance donated to refugee organisations. 26 October 2018: A mobile billboard drives past the Qantas AGM in Brisbane as refugee campaigners gather outside. Global advocacy organisation SumofUs organised the billboard after my #QantasTakeAStand work inspired the Australasian Centre for Corporate Responsibility to launch a shareholder campaign. 26 October 2018: Home to Bilo campaigner Angela Fredericks asks CEO Alan Joyce if Qantas will rule out separating children from parents during the forced transfer and removal of people seeking asylum. The following year, 24 per cent of Qantas shareholders defied the board's recommendation and voted for the airline to end its involvement in forced transfers and removals - the largest vote against an Australian board on a human rights issue. 12 September 2023: The Dandenong Star publishes a front page story and open letter calling on Immigration Minister Andrew Giles to intervene in the case of Dixtan Aralruban, a Tamil man facing imminent forced removal from Australia. I advised the Tamil Refugee Council on strategy and created this ad and a Change.org petition based on his mother Reeta's testimony. Dixtan was released from immigration detention in January 2025 and granted permanence in August 2025.
